I had my son 2 months ago and I wanted a girl but did not get a girl. I seemed ok about it after awhile but now I cannot even walk through walmart in the baby section to buy for my son without my eyes wondering over to the girls section and then I am holding tears back so people do not notice. My husband says he has been wondering if I am depressed over not having a girl. I do not think that I am depressed or have postpartum depression. But what is this why is it this has happened? This has not happened when I had my other kiddos.

I am a crunchy stay at home mom to a , , and a my husband is in our eyes.

Depression is characterized by a few different things - the absence or presence of some symptoms doesn't mean you do or don't have it - the only person that can advise you is a professional.

That said, if you find yourself having difficulty doing "normal" activities (caring for yourself or your dependents, doing your daily work) or being unable to enjoy things you normally love, that's a pretty strong sign that you're suffering from it, and you should definitely talk to someone.

Feeling overly emotional can be just hormones, or it can be something more sinister. If the way you feel concerns you, again it can't hurt to just talk to someone. It doesn't mean you need drugs, either, although antidepressants can be a valuable tool - therapy is very effective, and it's also sort of nice to go and talk about yourself/focus on yourself with someone who has professional insight.

I wouldn't rule it out if I were you. Maybe do some reading and find a healthcare professional who knows their stuff, is willing to listen and tailor their advice to your situation, and who will be supportive of your needs or desires.

I suffered through PPD, and it was the darkest time of my life. Seriously all of my memories look like they happened at night; even the ones that were forged in the daylight hours. It's real, and it's serious, and it's treatable.

Good luck.
