So I decided to jump on the band wagon recently and start charting. I noticed at the store though that I can purchase a fertility monitor that has 7 sticks vs a pack of 20 OPK sticks for the same price, which is easier for a complete newbie? I was leaning towards the FM just because I want to be sure I can read the result clearly but then I read that testing around when you think you should be ovulating can sometimes require more than 1 pee stick test per day to ensure you catch the surge when you're first trying to figure things out. So which do you guys recommend, pee on a computer or pee on 6 sticks a day and go through the whole box in one cycle =P (Okay, not really. Hopefully I don't get that addicted to peeing on things)

I am pretty new to this and I went with OPK And am happy with the choice I feel like I know what I need to without the cost of the monitor. Not to say Hugh I won't go to that if this doesn't work. Best wishes hope you get your bfp quickly. Oh yeah NS as it gets close I have po 4sticks in one day : tmi: just to make sure I caught the surge.

I never used a FM, went straight to OPk's but i never brought them from a store as they were really expensive. As you rightly say (joking or not) you could go through a whole pack in one cycle! Alot of us here get our OPK's from amazon as they're loads cheaper! I tend to buy 50 in one go and they last me a while but i am using less each cycle now as I know my body better, with you starting out you will use a lot!

either way and KUP

GL sweetie. Never used a fertility monitor, just OPKs. I've heard mixed reviews from those that have used the monitor, but many of us haven't used it.

Awesome Thanks for the advice ladies! I'll have to pick some up from amazon now. They're definitely cheaper. Let the pee-fests begin!!

Actually you might miss your surge with just the monitor because it is ONLY 7 days so you might have to buy another pack. Usually the instructions tell you to start testing on a certain day but everyone's cycles are different and your O date may not be the avg as per what the instructions use as a start date.

Also, usually those types of tests are once a day and they do measure other hormone levels as well, but as lots of girls know, only testing once a day can be misleading. When I learned my body, I knew when to start testing and I could always tell by the color when it would go positive either the next test or next day. On the days where I knew it should be going positive, I'd sometimes have to test 3 x's per day...Sometimes, morning and afternoon would be - but close, evening would be + and then by the next day - again. So if I had only tested once I would have missed my surge.

I agree with looking for good deals online! I'm in Canada so bought my tests on ebay and would spend like $6 including shipping for 50 tests which also included some HPT's So even if I didn't need them all it wasn't a huge waste, for me the ones in the store were 7 OPK's for like $45!!! And the ones you get online are just as good as the name brands in the store, like Answer or FRER, etc. Good luck!!
