Anyone do it? What is the cost? And do you feel it is worth the price? Do you know, if you can't afford to do it can you donate the cells?

I have never done the cord banking. I have been told its rather costly and when I looked almost 7 years ago with my first I remember thinking it was expensive. I haven't looked again. Donation can occur if your hospital participates I believe. I would ask your dr. I should ask mine...

Thanks .:Shortcake:. for my great siggie

The last time I checked it was still really expensive here. I would love to do it though if it weren't as expensive.

I read somewhere that if you donate with LifeSource (I think that was the group) and one of your children wind up sick later, they will check to see if your cord is still banked and let you have it back.

I'm pretty sure that if your hospital doesn't participate in a donation program that you can still do it, but you have to make plans to do so 1-2 months before delivery.

It's very expensive and not something we can afford. We want to try and donate, because if they still have it and you end up needing it, they give it to you.

We had it done. It's expensive and likely won't be useful to help my son, but if me or my husband got some type of cancer, his stem cells have a 50/50 chance of matching one of us. I think it's 25% chance to match a sibling. I haven't decided if we'll do it again.

I would have liked to have gotten it but it's way to expensive.

We are doing it....but to the public bank. We did the same thing when we had Danica.

I work at a children's hospital and whenever I hear about a premature baby or a sick baby (Leukemia is a top reason) that needs and uses stem cells I feel good about my decision.
