I had my first appt today with the clinic that I am considering switching to (going to the my next appt w/my midwife and deciding from there). The doc was so friendly and understanding. She tried to find baby's heartbeat for about 10 min and when she couldn't, she didn't hesitate to agree to an ultrasound. They got me in this afternoon.

Baby was asleep at first, but woke up and was wiggling all around He/she opened their mouth and then put their hand up by their face, and then they rolled over so that their back was to us. It was so cute! The tech said that everything looked normal. Hb was 173 bpm, and my baby is a whopping 5.13 cm CRL

I have an anterior placenta, which is why I haven't been able to hear their heartbeat by doppler. I'm so relieved to just have an explanation and to see a healthy, active baby at a point in this pregnancy that is past my previous loss date (9 wks).

The tech did say that the first dating u/s was considered more accurate (my due date was determined to be 08/02), but this u/s gave me a due date of 07/27 (the day before my birthday!). It will be interesting to see what our gender u/s says!

Thanks for all the positive thoughts, ladies. I can finally relax a little I'm going to try not to listen for the heartbeat until my next appt (Feb 2) so I don't freak myself out.

Yay for a good appt!

I definitely would not worry too much about not finding the HB this early on. I didn't hear our sons until I was 12 weeks I believe and this one I couldn't find it FOR SURE until 14/15 weeks.

Thanks, ladies!

Missy - You're the third (or more?) person to say girl

I was able to find L's at 11 weeks, and I keep reading about people finding their baby's at 9 or so weeks, so that was part of the reason why it was bothering me so much.

Awesome news. Will be interested to see which midwife you end up chosing. I read/responded to your post on NCB about what your midwife said about waiting. I am sooooo glad that you got seen elsewhere and have your mind at ease right now. Glad little baby looks good!!

Glad the baby is snuggled in well! I was told I have an anterior placenta as well. At my appt yesterday, the dr was able to find the heartbeat very very low...like just above my pubic bone. If you have trouble finding it again, try there. I hope my (and yours too!) placenta moves soon. Looking it up online, it seems like I won't be able to feel the baby move for a while if it stays anterior. What a bummer!
