Has anyone asked their Dr. about getting their hair colored or getting highlights or low lights put in while pregnant?

I have an appointment for Saturday, I made it several weeks ago before I knew I was pregnant. I'll be 4 weeks tomorrow.

My dr told me to wait until after the first trimester to color or highlight mine. He said the first 12 weeks are when baby is developing the major organs so it is best not to color then. He said there is no real research to show it does in fact harm baby but that he just recommends to wait so that is what I did and boy was it a long 12 weeks. I did get mine highlighted at 14 weeks.

That's sound advice Melissa. I have heard also that there's no evidence it hurts babies, but maybe when you do get it done you could ask for a fan blowing on you so you're not breathing in a lot of fumes?

That's what I've also been told, after the first trimester. Though I usually wait longer myself because DH gets really worried about the fumes at the salon.

I have heard the same thing, to wait until after the first trimester.

I'm too paranoid to do it during pregnancy at all because I know the chemicals seep into your skin/body... but SO MANY pregnant women get it done and never have issues. I wouldn't worry about it if you decide to get it done sometime in the 2nd trimester.

I did end up checking with my Dr. because I knew if I did it without asking I'd be a nervous wreck. They said same thing, they recommend waiting until after the 1st trimester but there were nothing that actually proves it's harmful, just their recommendation. I have dark brown hair and had blonde highlights put in this summer, they are growing out and I desperately need to cover them up! LOL Maybe 2nd trimester I'll just get some dark low lights put in and ask her to stay away from my scalp since the highlights are already grown out lol
