Melissa got me thinking. How does it feel to have your water broken by a doctor? Does it hurt? How do they do it?

It didn't hurt when my dr broke mine. He broke it with both Jackson and with Jacob. with Jackson he broke it at one time so it gushed out. No pain at all. And with Jacob he just put a tiny hole in it so it leaked out. no pain that time either. He used a long slender poker and just stuck it up there and poked a hole. I really didn't feel much except for the gush. But both times right after he broke my water my contractions really began to pick up and hurt. Dr said that was because my body was ready but it just needed that extra push of the water breaking.

My water broke at home... So I've never had a doctor break it... But I seen it all the time.

Super easy procedure... They will stick a long white amino hook up into your vagina... Then they will use it to rupture your membranes aka the water! I've never heard of it hurting at all. Most women just go "oh" and it's done. People describe it as a popping sensation. I never felt that with my DD I just started leaking. Once your ruptured the fluid will just continue leaking out and your nurses will change your towels, chux as needed. Nothing to worry about.

My water broke at home with Chloe, and the doctor broke it with Alexis and Jude. Never hurt with any of them. The only time I've heard it hurting is when the woman in labor is getting it broke before their body is ready (36 weeks not dilated). Cannot wait to see Toren!

Never went into labor, fortunately my DD decided to stay put for another week until the Doc did her C-Section. She was breached of course.

You will not feel it at all. I had it done with both deliveries. Never would break on it's own.

With Reagan, my water broke as they were removing the foley bulb (used to open the cervix), so that didn't hurt. With Addy, although my bag of water was bulging, he really had to get up there to get it, he just couldn't reach properly (I was 3, almost 4 cm at the time). It hurt a little because his arm was all the way up inside me...lol! My body was ready, as soon as he got it, bam, the contractions went from 8 min apart to 2 and I was pushing about 4 hours later. I also hadn't had my epi until after they broke my water...there was a lot of fluid gushing at one time, that was a weird sensation, felt like I was just peeing everywhere.

It didn't hurt for me either, and I had it broken with Ethan and Kody. With Ethan I seem to remember feeling a bit of a tugging sensation. Kody I don't recall really feeling much of anything. They had me all toweled up to catch the amnio fluid so it wasn't messy. It definitely helped speed things up.
With Kody I probably would have kept dilating slowly over a period of days if they hadn't have broken my water. I was sick of waiting and my hubby needed to go back to work, so I said let's get this show on the road! He was born 3 hours after they broke my water.
