Just wondering if anybody else has had their cholesterol levels checked during pregnancy? We have to do a health screening for our insurance every January and I had mine yesterday. Last year my cholesterol level was 166 and yesterday it was 242 which of course freaked me out. The guy who did my screening had no idea if pregnancy affected your levels or not. So I did a big no no and I asked Dr. Google and it seems like it is normal for it to up and to really rise in the third trimester which may be why mine is so high. I am definitely going to get it checked in a few months to make sure it has gone back down.

But I was just wondering what everybody else knew about cholesterol levels during pregnancy. I see my dr tomorrow so I was going to ask him also.

Thank you *Kiliki* for my beautiful siggy

I have no idea either. Did you fast before the test?

I had to fast for 3 hours before the test. I did find online that cholesterol was necessary for baby's growing nervous system so that is why it gets higher and it is highest in the third trimester. I'm definitely going to see what my dr says. Seems crazy that it would go up that much. I have actually been eating better while pregnant than I did before I got pregnant.

Thank you *Kiliki* for my beautiful siggy

I'm sure it's related to your pregnancy and hormones, but glad you have an appointment with your doctor so you can ask. I've never had mine tested during pregnancy (or if I have they must have been ok because nobody has ever said anything about my cholesterol).

I think they usually check mine once a year, so if I've had it, I don't get it checked. But, I can't remember...I just had mine done and my LDL was slightly elevated, luckily the 'good' cholesterol, so my doc just said to monitor my diet and get some exercise (oh, ok...lol). Anyways, keep us posted!

I'm sure it's just temporarily elevated b/c of the pregnancy and sounds like from the info you found it's normal for that to be happen since you are so far along now. Let us know what your doctor says about it.
