hi -

I've had 2 D&C's, and have never heard of having anything inserted the day before? I'd call the doc. back and get the actual name of what he's talking about so you can do some internet research on it.

As far as I know, the OB slowly dialated my cervix during the surgery and I really felt fine after both of them.

It sounds like Cytotec or Laminaria. I never received it with mine, but I guess it depends on how far along you are too?? It's the same thing used to help dilate your cervix when you are in labor.

Laminaria is sometimes inserted into the cervix a day before the procedure to minimize damage to the cervix. It absorbs water and expands thereby slowely opening the cervix.

That is probably what you are having put in.

Good luck with the procedure.
