Are you on any sort of "diet"?

What have you tried in the past?
What worked and what didn't work?

I don't diet, never really have. I have done the Master Cleanse but that's more of a detox fast than a diet. I'd like to do that again someday, but can't until Lucy is weaned, assuming I'm not knocked up again by then.

In one of the books by Michael Pollan (can't remember which one now) he explains his seven-word rule for eating. Eat [real] food, not too much, mostly plants. That pretty well sums up what I aim for as far as my dieting. I don't do a good job, especially as the cost of quality foods keeps going up and the prices of the cheap but filling crap stay stable... but I try.

I just track calories and exercise--the good old fashioned way. I did WW and did really well but I was always starving so finally gave up.

There are a bunch of little things I do:
I watch portion sizes, fist size or smaller.
I try to stand up during my meal to let my body regulate how much is in my stomach.
I follow the same rule for beverages I use on my kids: water only between/or with meals, juice up to twice a day only with meals, milk up to three times a day only with meals/snacks.
I eat raw, clean vegetables more than I cook them (the more colorful the veggie the better!). If it must be cooked I steam them.
My family and I eat only whole grain/wheat/rye breads.
I drink only diet sodas.
I try to walk 3 times a week or any morning that is warm enough after Belle is on the bus to school.
