Are you big on manners in your home and feel that they're very important? Do your kids have to say 'please' each time they ask for something, and 'thank you' when they receive something? Do they have to refer to any family members as 'ma'am' or 'sir', or is that too strict in your family?

Kiddos have to use manners, every time no exceptions, with DH and myself.

When asking for items, they must use Please and Thank you, no politeness=no item. I do live in the south where Sir/Ma'am are normal forms for kids to address their elders but that does not apply to mom/dad/grandparents. The first time Traci called my mom "ma'am" my mom explained that you use that with other ladies who are not family and you use proper names/titles, and gramma/grampa. The kids do address their teachers with Ma'am (as other children do) and other adults with whom they come in contact with are Sir/Ma'am.

Every other week we do have a family outing at a nicer more upscale place, so the kiddos can practice manners.
And now there are 6....
Traci 14
Leigh 9
Brandon 6

Please and thank you are a must. We are pushing complete sentences ("I want the car, please" instead of just "please").

We refer to his friends mom's as Miss and their first name. I am from the north and DH is from the south so we are a mix, but my SIL told me awhile back this is what she does so I picked it up when we had AJ. We are having issues with AJ using our names to refer to us and we just tell him that he doesn't call Daddy by Tony - he is Daddy to him.

PM to see if I am available to make a siggy - decisions will be made on a case by case basis.

We don't do sir or ma'am, but please and thank you are a MUST. I'm becoming more polite, myself, in order to encourage politeness with Nathaniel!
