I don't know how Jaidyn is going to cope! She absolutely adores Father John and refuses to have a communal blessing if we have another priest when Father John is away! I don't think it really registered with her when he announced he is leaving for health reasons.
So we will have a new priest in August and I just hope and pray that she 'takes' to him. Father John is the only priest she has known and I just hope she doesn't get too upset when he isn't there any more. He thinks the sun shines out of her, which makes it even harder! Before she started school, he would go there to say Mass, see Lucas and tell the Head Teacher (Principal) that Jaidyn was an adorable little girl! Apparently he praises her to the hilt every time he is at the school, so you can see how much we adore this man!!!
As a toddler she would dance in the aisle to all the hymns and I know some priests would frown upon that, but not Father John, he would just smile and even though in nearly 6 years he has never pronounced her name right (he says Jay-deen instead of Jay-din) she never corrects him, believe me if anyone else dare pronounce her name wrong she comes down on them
I'm thinking of getting him a small gift from her, but I'm not sure what to get, so any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated. The school will be getting him something, but I really want to get him something just from Jaidyn, just not sure what!
It will be a sad day when he says his last Mass

That is so sad, poor Jaidyn It's awesome she knows your priest... and sweet. Our kids don't know the priests in our parish at all, there isn't much of a community sense going. I am not good with present ideas, so hopefully someone else is. I hope Jaidyn is able to deal with it ok!

Aw, sorry to hear that. How often do priests in your diocese typically rotate to new parishes (when not leaving for health reasons)?

Our priest is leaving too. He's been here since the summer we got married, so the only parish priest our kids have known - though the assistants have changed several times. Priests here usually don't stay longer than 7 years in a parish, so he's definitely due for a move! It's been 11.

Not sure if there is a set number of years, my parents parish priest stayed for nearly 20 years before moving to a smaller parish. Our last priest had been here about 15 years (we moved here a year before he left) Father John has been here since 2004.
