I went to my mom's house this weekend. There church had burned down, and 5 yrs later, the parishoners rebuilt it by themselves. The archbishop of San Antonio was there and it was a church dedication and alter dedication. I have never seen a dedication, and it was beautiful. Did you know that they smear oil all over the alter and then wipe it all up before they put a tablecloth on it? It is a tiny church, seats about 50. But it was really pretty. Just thought I would share. IT was a good weeken with the family. My sis led a choir of small children, all too young to receive, and they were precious. Most were my neice and nephews...my sis has 10 kids! ha

Oh yeah I been to a church dedication. Well our parish was rededicated after extensive remodeling took place. They had Archbishop and bishops come out. It was neat how they had mass. It was like 2 hours of church. They rubbed oil on it before putting the table cloth on. The we watched them bring up the box with the relics in it. Watched it being places back into the alter. They went through this whole thing with incense around the alter. Then let all the parishioners come up to kiss the alter. I never seen a mass like that before.

Awww, yay! I have never been to a dedication. Oil is involved in everything it seems.
