I was told that I must wait, at least a year to go to the temple. My question is, what things do I need to accomplish within the church in order to go to the temple? I very much look forward to going and want to be able to go by my 1yr baptismal anniversary of December 10th 2011.

Thank You Alethia for the Siggy!

There is nothing you need to accomplish aside from being a member in good standing. They make you wait a year so you can learn more and be ready to make the covenants we make in the temple. Basically, while all church members are "obligated" (for lack of a better word... we're not really obligated since we can always choose to follow the commandments or not) to do certain things, in the temple we make a stronger commitment and deepen those promises.

Anyway, now that you've been baptized, you can go to do baptisms for the dead at the temple. The temple recommend interview for baptisms (limited use recommend) is similar (maybe the same, I don't remember... it's been a long time since I was a teenager and did baptisms!) to the regular temple recommend interview. The questions we are asked are stuff like do we believe in Jesus Christ, affiliate with any groups that have principles against the church, strive to live in harmony with the gospel teachings, pay a full tithe, follow the word of wisdom, have no misdeeds that must be taken care of with a bishop, ummm... it's been a year and a half since my last interview so I know I am missing some questions. Basically, if you are following the basic teachings of the church, have a testimony, and have been a member a year, you'll be able to attend the temple.

Yep, Heather answered it well. I actually have my recommend interview tonight.

The hardest question for me for a very long time was "Do you feel you are worthy to enter the temple?" I had a lot of issues with depression, and with that the feeling that I just wasn't good enough for anything. My bishop knew that, I guess, and said to me "You answered all the other questions the way that you should. That is the way that the Lord, through his prophets, has told us that He feels we are worthy. If you truly are living up to all those things, then He would feel you are worthy, so what right do you have to tell Him He's wrong?"

Not that I think you would do that, I'm just rambling. lol

But yes, if you aren't doing those things that you shouldn't, and doing those things that you should, then you shouldn't have a problem. I would definitely ask the bishop if he's going to hold a temple preparation class. I did one before I went through and it was really good for me.

Thank You!
I am supposed to follow up with the missionaries soon to do a follow up discussion. One of them told me, the last time we met that I could either see or do a baptism for the dead (I can't remember which one he said b/c my children were being awful).

Thank You Alethia for the Siggy!
