It starting on the evening of saturday 14th, I had slightly stronger cramps than normal so me and Tom decided to take Ollie for a walk to get things moving and to get Ollie to sleep. I didn't think it was labour at this stage though, but I was hoping the walking would do something.

When we got back home I convinced Tom to DTD we hadn't done it in a while as Owen's head was so low Tom felt weird going there (eta: Tom couldn't feel his head while DTD, I meant the midwife said it was really low so just the thought of that made Tom not want to do anything)

I woke up about 1:30am and then bed was slightly wet.. I just thought it was stuff from earlier (tmi) but when I stood up to go to the toilet I felt a gush. I was so tired that I didn't really realise what was going on and fell back to sleep.
I woke up about about 2am with cramps which got worse and worse, I woke Tom up to tell him and then stood up to go to the toilet and every step I took more and more fluid gushed out!

I called the hospital to let them know and then got in the bath for a little while to relax a bit.

At about 3:30am I called my parents who came over, my mum sat with Ollie and my dad drove me and Tom to the hospital.

We got to the hospital around 4am and they checked me, I was 4cm.
I tried the gas and air but it made me sick.. I just managed to tell Tom to move out the way before being sick.

I then requested an epidural which worked for about an hour then it slipped or something and stopped working, they kept putting top ups in but it wasn't doing anything.

My blood pressure went quite low, but not too low. I felt really drowsey and I kept being sick, but there wasn't anything left in me.. so they put an anti-sickness shot in my drip.

After a few hours of this they finally believed me and re-done the epidural when I was 8cm dilated (I'm not sure what time it was by now, I guess around midday) It worked a lot better but I still wasn't getting the full effect of it.
Just after 1pm I felt the sudden urge to push.. they didn't believe me at first, but when they checked me, sure enough, I was 10cm and ready to go. I pushed and managed to get his head a lot of the way down, I could feel it when I reached down and Tom could see it. However, no matter how hard I pushed I could not get his head any further.
By this point I was getting rather annoyed as the midwives kept whispering to eachother and laughing at me and telling me I wasn't pushing properly. One of them was really rude and very old fashioned.

At 3:05pm the doctor came in to help, he put a ventouse on Owen's head, which he had to cut me for in order to put in on correctly. I pushed but still struggled to get his head out.
All of a sudden I got a burst of energy and did a big push and the doctor pulled, out came Owen's head, then another push and the rest of him came out! He was born at 3:17pm.
(As well as being cut I got a 2nd degree tear, it seemed like he was stitching me up for hours!)

Anyway, there he was all 8lb 4oz and 20.8inches of him.
