Tuesday night I started having contractions & didn't really think anything of it because I've been having them for weeks. Then they got stronger & more regular. I didn't get much sleep that night & we decided it was time to go to the hospital around 0530 Wednesday morning. We got there & were admitted. My Dr checked me & I was still only 4cm, same as at my Friday appointment.

About 10 mins after that, my water broke. They started my antibiotics for the GBS & I pushed the IV tree around the hall. I know this is completely backwards, but my contractions STOPPED after my water broke. They had totally stopped by 7 am. My Dr told me he'd let me walk & try to get them started back up again. By noon, still nothing, so I agreed to a low dose of pit. I knew since my water had broken at the hospital, I was on the clock.

The pit started the contractions right back up again. I started contracting regularly & hard. Unfortunately, it was all in my back. Wow! Mike & my doula took turns applying counter pressure to my back. At around 3, my Dr checked me again & I was 5-6 cm. He said my cervix was very thin & low. The contractions got really intense. About 20 mins later my doula suggested I try to use the bathroom before we got too much farther into it. Every time I would try to sit, it caused a contraction. I started to feel kind of panicky & told Mike that I didn't know if I could do this. My doula said she thought I needed to be checked... did I need to push. I said, no I just needed to catch my breath. The nurse came in just as I was sitting on the edge of the bed. I had 1 really intense contraction & was leaning on my husband. I tried to catch my breath & then another one came. My body started to push; I had no control. The nurse goes "Are you pushing?!" I told her I was, but I wasn't trying to. She had me lay down & checked me & I was fully dilated & ready to push. I had no idea the panic was obviously transition, but my doula did.

I pushed for about 25 minutes & Avery Kathleen was born on July 14th at 4:27 pm. She was 9lbs 15ozs & 21 inches. She was 2 ounces bigger than Ethan, but a much, much easier delivery. I did need a low dose of pit to jump start things, but it was a totally pain-med free birth. Unfortunately, I did end up with a 3rd degree tare, but I still feel pretty darn good. Avery is nursing well & we were discharged from the hospital on the 15th. I'm at home with my wonderful family... 4 of us now.
