Due to the size of my previous babies, the Dr. thought I should think about induction if the baby wasn't born by week 40. Since he wasn't here at my appointment last Tuesday, January 4th, my doctor called over to the hospital to schedule an induction. Little did I know it would be for that evening. I was still 1 cm dilated and about 70% effaced when I went in at 8 PM. At 10:40 PM, the doctor inserted the mesoprostol (sp?) and said if it didn't work I'd be given Pitocin after 4 hours. However, at 12:20 am I felt a pop with a small pain and some fluid leaking. The nurse confirmed that my 'water' had a leak so the meso pill had worked and I would most likely not need Pitocin. A couple of hours later I was dilated to between a 4 and 5. At about 4:45 am I was feeling like I was going to have to push and contractions were very strong and 1.5-2 min apart. The nurse called the dr in there and she said I was at 7 cm dilation. However a strong contrax came and I told her I needed to push so she checked during the contrax and said it brought me to a 9 cm. She helped me out (if you know what I mean) so that during the next 3 contractions when I pushed I dilated enough to push him out. Baby Greyson Liam was born at 5:10 am on January 5th. They said it went very quickly for an induction and that it was likely he would have come in the next couple of days anyway. At least this way we knew we would 'make it in time' to the hospital, as with my fourth son I arrived already dilated to a 10. Everything worked out well and Greyson weighed 9 lbs, 1.6 oz and was 21 inches. We are home now and doing well. I wish the same for all of you.

Well glad this was much less stressful than trying to figure out if you need to pull over and give birth on the side of the road! Congratulations!
