On Wednesday August 3rd I was scheduled to be induced at 7am. I got to the hospital and my doctor checked me and I was 1.5cm dialated and 50% effaced. When they hooked me up to the monitors, they said I was having contractions 2-3 minutes apart, but I felt nothing, not even cramps. They started the pitocin at about 8:30am. After 4 hours they checked me again and I was still 1.5cm and now 80% effaced. I still was not feeling any pain. My doctor decided to break my water to get things going faster. That was the strangest feeling ever. After my water was broken, I started to have period like cramps in my back, but nothing horrible at all. Another 4 hours go by and I get checked again, this time I was 3cm and 90% effaced. They kept upping the pitocin. Finally at about 10pm I started to get horrible back contractions that lasted 1 minute and were coming every minute and half to 2 mintues. I finally decided to get an epidural. they checked me before I got it, and I was at 5cm and 100% effaced. The pressure and feeling from the epi was not fun at all, but it took away all the pain I was having. After 2 hours, I was 7cm. The nurses and doctor were getting concerned because her heartrate kept dropping to the 80s and 90s, so I was put on oxygen. 2 hours later, I was 9.5cm so they had me sit indian style for an hour. Finally I was a full 10cm and started pushing. That was a strange feeling. After 10 minutes of pushing my doctor came in. While I was still pushing, Kaylee's heartrate was dropping into the 70s so they were trying to have me push as much as I could as fast as I could. After 30 minutes total of pushing, Kaylee was born at 6:24am on Thursday August 4th. She weighed 7 pounds 6 ounces and 19 1/2 inches long. I did have a secon degree tear, but it was all worth it. As most of you know, my mom passed away last August and her birthday is on August 4th. So I got my wish of having Kaylee born on her birthday. Kaylee did have a very short umbilical cord, but her APGAR scores were 9 both 1 min and 5 min after she was born. So for my first ever birth, not too bad. We love her so much and she is perfect in every way. I will post pictures when I have more time. Thanks for reading!!!
