Monday night/early Tuesday morning at 1:30 I was in bed and was awakened by a trickle that I thought was my water breaking. I went to the bathroom and emptied my bladder and there was more coming out. I also had quite a bit of bloody show. So, I woke my husband and we headed for the hospital. They checked to see if it was my water, but it wasn't. The doctor said that my waters were still intact and I was still 2 cm...and to go home. By this time, I was contracting, but they were only mild and coming every 6 - 8 minutes. So, against my own judgement, we headed home. It takes us about 35 minutes to get to the hospital from my house. I was contracting the whole way home. By the time we got home, the contractions were getting quite painful and coming every 5 - 6 minutes. So, I laid down for an hour and couldn't take the pain any longer. We headed back to the hospital and when they checked me this time I was 5 cm and in a lot of pain! By the time I was admitted it was 5:45 in the morning. I was GBS positive, so they wouldn't give me my epidural until I had the IV. Then, the epidural was delayed because of the emergency c-sections that were more important than me. I was dialating so quickly that the nurse said that even if I did get the epidural, it wouldn't have the full effect and I would still be in pain. Before the epidural was put in the nurse checked me and said that I was dialated to a 9 and my cervix was very stretchy. Luckily, the epidural was put in and it numbed me just in time for me to be able to start pushing. I pushed for about 30 minutes and Brantson was born. I had a first degree tear which was stitched up. The umbilical cord was wrapped TWICE around Brantson's neck and there was a "true knot" in the cord. But, there wasn't any stress from those. The labor was the most terrifying and painful experience in my life! Brantson weighed 7 lb. 11 oz and 19 3/4" long. He is a healthy, perfect baby boy!

Wow...it sounds like one crazy night for you. I'm glad the umbilical cord didn't harm him. Congratulations!

Congratulations! Glad they were able to put in the epidural as at times it becomes too late for that!
