Tomorrow we have our endo appt. Not sure how I feel going to it....want to find out the details of the celiac tests, sort of. The other part of me is saying

Her bloodsugars have been pretty out of whack since school started in september, so no telling what her a1c is!

I'll let you know how it goes!

Our endo appointment went pretty well! Her a1c was 6.9!!!!
That made us very happy...considering that her numbers have been kind of all over lately. Although dh and I were talking about it, and what WE consider as all over....probably is pretty good compared to some kids! We work hard to keep her in decent control, while still letting her enjoy the food she likes.

On paper, it appears she is positive for celiac disease If we want, they will send us to a peds gi specialist....where we will get a stomach biopsy to confirm it. Endo is of the opinion that if we don't have symptoms, lets not get too worked up about it, especially considering that she is growing well. We ended up deciding to do the bloodtests over next year sometime, unless she becomes symptomatic before then. Then we can compare the results...and our logic is this: if she does in fact have celiac, then the numbers should get higher on the scale. Then we can evaluate at that time what to do. Since the only treatment is diet related, and she has no obvious trouble with the offending food, the doctor says, and we agreed, that it is would be very hard to stick to. Its one thing if the offending food makes you sick when you eat it...but if you feel the same...why wouldn't you cheat? We already have diet issues to deal with.

And, her thyroid is enlarged. Not a big surprise, cuz we already know she has a thyroid issue.

So...other than that, good

I'm glad to hear that her appointment went well.
I agree on the celiac disease. If she isn't showing symptoms why bother to put her through all of the tests....it is not like you and her don't have enough to worry about already with the diabetes.

Yeah for the great a1c!!! I'm jealous, lol. I agree on the testing as well. Austin had one thyroid level a little off and next test it was back to normal. His endo said if he's not having symptoms then he's not going to treat it. I think the same would work with celiac disease. They got enough tests to deal with.

Now Lucy, you KNOW that nothing with diabetes is PERFECT

We all have to let go of that perfectionist inside to succeed with this disease--Lord knows I have had to!
