what is the most significant world event [in your eyes] that you've been alive to 'witness'... whether in person or on tv etc etc?

the World Trade Center attacks are probably the biggest event i have been alive to witness - and i think that is going to be the case for most of our generation.. and even our parents generation

There have been a couple....the freeing of the hostages back in the early 80's, President Reagan being shot, 9/11, and the space shuttle disaster back in 1986, Lennon being shot and killed.

I remember watching the news for the hostages and Reagan deals.
I remember seeing on the tv the news about Lennon and the aftermath of that for his fans.
I walked into work just after they announced the first tower being hit and saw everything that happened afterwards cuz none of us could take our eyes off the tv in the break room long enough to go to our desks and actually work.
I was in school when the space shuttle exploded and they announced it over the loud speaker and had a moment of silence for those lost.

~My thanks to *Kiliki* for the siggy and Lucy S for the blinkies~
