So I called the dr this morning to see about getting a blood test. When I was on the phone with them they told me it was up to me whether I got a blood test done or not. The nurse asked if I had taken an HPT and i told her I had taken 3 and they were all positive. She said I didn't necessarily need the blood test unless I just wanted it. Well of course I wanted it!! So I get there and they do the test and they tell me they will call me with the results. The nurse called and all she said was that it was positive and she set up my first appt (Aug. 25 can't get here soon enough!) I guess what I'm getting at is they didn't do my hcg levels or whatever you want to call it. I asked her about it and she said they only do them if it is something "threatening". I was kinda surprised because that's what I was expecting them to do. I'm guessing maybe it just depends on the Dr. Does your dr test your levels or do they just do a +/- test??

I never did a blood test to confirm pregnancy with my son. They just had me pee in a cup and they dipped a test in. I hope my doctor for this one won't do a blood test. I think it's pretty common to skip it.

With my first I think they probably just did a +/- test to confirm my HPT at my family Dr. before referring me. My OB doesn't do the blood tests at all.

Unless you have a history of recurrent miscarriage, they won't do the actual numbers, they'll just do +/-. That's totally normal.

At my first appts. I get blood taken (no levels either), give urine sample, get an u/s, and an exam. It would be nice to get levels at every appt. For me, I think it would be neat to see how they increase. I'm just glad I get an u/s at my first appt. It helps to see the baby, not only to help the idea of being pregnant sink in, but it's also nice to have a pic to show people when I tell them the news.

I too can't wait till my appt!! Mine is the day before yours, so I understand how far away it feels!

My doctor doesn't check the levels unless you have had a previous loss.
