Has anyone had to get a PPD test for tuberculosis while pregnant? My job is requiring it by May 1st but I'm a little worried about getting it. I looked it up and found out it was a category C. Anyone have any experience with this?

what exactly do they do? I know in my first pregnancy I was tested for tuberculosis because of some strange bumps I get on my leg (in every pregnancy, and it's rare), but I can't remember how they tested me...I thought it was just a blood test? I'm not sure since it was over 11 years ago...Sorry i'm no help....BTW my test was negative and that's now what causes the bumps.

A TB test, as I remember, was a prick on your arm with something that reminds me of a meat cleaver with four prongs...no biggie. But if it interferes with the baby, can you request to wait?
Thanks Kiliki for the siggy!

It's a test where they use a small gauge needle and inject the "purified protein derivative" under your skin, making a small welt. You then wait 3 days to see if you have a reaction to it or not (positive vs negative test).

In case anyone else has to do this (I work in healthcare), my OB called me back and said it was safe to do during pregnancy.

I would still rather not do it though. I mean, I don't drink any coffee, alcohol, eat questionable cheeses, take meds I took prior to pregnancy, you name it!
