Do you have to give them a bottle or sippy cup? What do you put it in? Have you found any other ways to soothe back to sleep?

Michael isn't a regular night waker - but when he does - we just sit with him until he goes back to sleep. It normally doesn't take long - but then I try to put him back down in the crib - and he is standing and crying in seconds. I just repeat until he falls asleep. DH wanted me to nurse/or give him a bottle the one night - I refused - I just didn't want him to get in the habit of wanting a bottle in the middle of the night...

I really want to wean Logan at 1 year. But at the rate we are going I don't think he's going to give the boobies up easily. Like I've said before he is still up 4 to 6 times a night wanting his boobies. If I quit BFing what the heck do I do when he wakes up? We've tried just walking or rocking him. Doesn't work. I finally just give him what he wants.

have you tried to give him a bottle when he wakes instead? He probably just wants something to comfort him right?

I hope you find something that works! I'm sure you are ready to start getting some sleep!

Taylor is a regular night waker do if she does, I tend to just give her a bottle and she usually goes right back to sleep. Could you maybe try to get him to take a bug bottle before bed that way you at least know he's full? I can't remember if you do CIO or not but maybe when he does wake try to just let him fuss a little before getting him. Maybe he will put himself Back to sleep. I notice T will sometimes whimper in her sleep but doesn't actually wake up. Are you guys cosleeping? Maybe if he's in his own room he won't be tempted for the boob As much?

Like Julie just said - Michael will wake up and cry too - last night he did. But, he puts himself back to sleep. Are you letting him cry a minute? Or do you rush right in to him??

Julie, what's a bug bottle? We do still cosleep. The last week or 2 we've been putting him in this crib, awake and letting him go to sleep on this own. Usually that's no problem. Then he wakes up an hour or 2 later and cries until I come get him. He won't go back to sleep, he usually just arches and lunges, until we lay down and I nurse him.

A big bottle I think she meant - I read it a couple times too...

I hate to say it - but, I think you would have to probably stick to your guns and keep him in his crib, and not nurse him at night. Did you say you tried a bottle at night instead? Maybe its just a matter of breaking the pattern.

I know CIO isn't for everyone (including me) but - it may be an option to consider in your case.... like I said - I think with Logan, from what you've said - its just a matter of getting him a new routine and sticking with it. It won't happen in one night unfortunatly.

Hey - Worse case - he ends up nursing past a year, which is good for him right??

sorry, dang iPhone...BIG bottle is what I meant

Maybe have your husband go in instead. He may be associating you with the boob when he's really not hungry, but he knows you will come in and he can sooth himself with your boob. I think it's a habit that will take some time to break, but it's possible to break by 1, just have to start now. I remember Jaime saying that her DH had to start going in instead of her because he was associating her with the boob. Can't hurt to try!

I haven't tried as bottle at night yet. I really want to be done with BFing at 1 year because I want to start nutrisystem. That may sound selfish but it's something I need to do. When Logan wakes up from his crib DH goes in and tries to console him. It doesn't work. He cries until I get him. But I'm sure you are right we're just going to have to let him CIO.

Could you pump during the day just enough for that bedtime bottle?

My pumping sucks. I usually only get 1 oz. from both sides. We kind of tried CIO last night. We put him to bed in his bed which usually isn't a problem but for some reason it was last night. I think he gave up after 45 minutes? Then he slept for maybe an hour. And started crying. We gave him 5 minutes to go back to sleep on his own. Nope. DH went in and tried to console him. Nope. So I went in and laid down with him but didn't nurse. He went to sleep. I got up, he woke up. Laid back down, he went back to sleep. I got up, he woke up. So I put him back in his baby bed. And let him cry another 30 minutes. He didn't even seem close to going to sleep. So I gave in and went to sleep with him. He was up alot last night

Aww! That sounds like it was a VERY long night for you all!! Hopefully if you are able to stick to it he will figure out what he needs to do? I know it's not easy to listen to them cry. I usually go out to the kitchen and wash her bottles for the first 10 min and then I turn the monitor on to see if she's still crying or talking or what she's doing.

your situation is the EXACT same as mine!
I don't know what to do.I wanted to stop nursing at 1yr and during the day, he doesnt nurse at all. It's the night waking that's the problem. At least 5x a night he wakes looking for my boob and can't go back to sleep until he gets it.I tried the paci and it doesn't work,he only wants the boob lol

Em doesn't get a bottle after 7:30pm. Like Jenny, my DH has been pushing me saying she must need food (I swear he thinks that's the solution to every cry she makes), but I refuse to let her get used to eating in the middle of the night. She gets a pacifier and most nights she gets rocked until she falls back asleep. It sometimes takes an hour or so and she sometimes fights it big time, but she eventually gives in and goes back to sleep. Other times, I put her in the crib and let her work it out as long as she's not crying or upset.
