My daughter is 3 1/2 and I am having trouble teaching her to sit politely when she is wearing dresses. I know that this is a hard concept for a child her age to understand, but she will only wear dresses lately and while I do put shorts under her dress now (or tights when it's cold) I want her to be able to keep herself covered. I might be a bit paranoid, but in this day and age I just can't help but be that way.

Any tips?

Is she into the whole princess thing yet? My older daughter was obsessed with them at that age...so I demonstrated for her how princess sit, and how they do NOT sit. And then reminders to "sit like a princess" were all it took.

Hope you find something just as easy to help your DD!

Hmmmm... I guess I just tell them they can sit however they want to at home when there's no company, but they have to sit "right" when out in public or if there's company. And I tell them by sitting right I mean no showing the underwear. Hope you find something that helps.

I have been showing and telling her how to sit "like a lady" but she can't seem to manage staying like that for long. The biggest issue is at the grocery store. She rides in the big part of the shopping cart and sits with knees up. Even if I bring a blanket for her to sit on, she will still end up with her knees up and her dress pulled all the way up! It drives me insane how many times I have to remind her!

I'll try the "sitting like a princess" because she really does like princess stuff and that might click better with her. Thanks!

Haha, you're name threw me off too!

Thanks for all the advice. We have been practicing sitting like a princess and that seems to be working a little better!
