I have already been diagnosed with group b strep. I am wondering if with the IV antibiotics I can still have a water birth. This is my first baby. I don't want to have a epi. I know I have time to decide what I want to do but I really want to do the water birth. If someone could please shed some light on this I would be very greatful.

From my understanding just because its present right now doesn't mean it will be when you go into labor. Thats why the testing is normally done between 35-37 weeks.

If you are in the US, chances are probably not. Especially if you are seeing a doctor and planning on giving birth in a hospital. But none of the hospitals around where I live even offer waterbirth, so maybe where you live docs are a little more open to that.

Thank you GraysMama for my beautiful siggy!

I know in my state my midwives will still let you have a water birth you just have to have the antibiotics first but not sure if it's the same for all states or all care providers.

Whenever I'm in the hospital, I know that you aren't allowed to get the IV wet. Showers are a hassle. As long as you can get it out of your arm after the medicine I don't see why you can't have a water birth if it's offered in your area, but if you have an IV in, I seriously doubt it.
