So...long story short:

Contractions started around 10pm Thursday night, very mild and I figured it was just practice stuff again. I was able to lay down around midnight and slept til around 2am. I started timing the cintractions and they were about 6 minutes apart and I needed to get out of bed to be more comfortable. I continued this way until around 5am when I woke DH to let him know what was going on. Contractions were closer together then, I think about 2-3 minutes but I was still able to tolerate them well and breathe through them. I took a shower and shaved up (just in case!) and by 6:30 I went back in and told DH he might want to think about taking a shower and getting ready. It was cute to watch him fly out of bed !!!

I called the hospital to let them know I would probably be coming in in a while...I was so afraid to go in and be told that it was too early and be sent home! Around 7am things really picked up, contractions were every 2 minutes and I had to lean over the bed and rock through them...DH was starting to get worried and kept saying "we really need to go"...I just kept tidying around the house....pretty sure I was in denial. The short car ride to the hospital things intensified more and I was feeling more pressure. At the hospital they hooked me up to the monitor and the nurse decided to check me right away. To my shock I was already almost 8cm...could not believe it!! The time then was around 8am and I was able to get back out of bed and lean over the bed and breathe through the contractions. DH stood behind me and massaged my back until it was time to push...what a wonderful man! What allowed me to tolerate the contractions was that they only lasted about a minute each and I really only felt pain for 30-45 seconds for each one. I decided not to have an epidural (which was my plan) and continue to try on my own.

Around 9am the doc checked me and I was 8+cm but he could only feel her head and no bag of water so he couldn't break it. By 9:45am I was feeling more pressure and the doc came back to check me and I was 9 3/4cm and the bag was there so he broke it. Within a few contractions I was complete and ready to start pushing. Pushing began at 10:15am and was tolerable until her head started getting down past the pelvis...OMG they do not lie when the refer to crowning as "the ring of fire" It hurt like heck but with all of my family in the room for support I was able to keep pushing. Rilyn arrived at 11:05am, awake and alert. She was able to stay on me until she started pooping all over everything!! They finally had to take her because the poop was running down to where the doctor was doing repairs I had minor internal tearing because she came out with her elbow up by her face...docotor thought it took as long as it did to push because of this!

Overall, the experience I had was wonderful and I really was too shocked to even take it all in at the time. I was in denial that entire morning that it was really happening! DH and I couldn't be more thrilled to have our beautiful baby girl. She weighed in at 8 pounds and was 20 inches. Being a mother is a wonderful feeling...and though there have been challenges already being at home she is well worth it all!

What a great birth! All natural, not planned and you didn't freak out....you rock!

When they persisted in questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "Let the person among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her." John 8:7
