I had been taking the OTC prenatals with the DHA supplement. I think usually the Brainstrong brand (?) but I can't remember.

Recently, Kroger had their prenatal gummy vitamins on sale buy one get one free. I love a bargain and gummy vitamins look so much easier than swallowing the horse pills. So I got them. In comparing labels, I see that the gummies have less DHA than the other brands of prenatals. Is there anything I should do, such as a supplement for DHA? I see my doctor in 2 weeks , so I will ask her then. But I wondered if anyone else out there was taking gummies or had used gummies in the past.

(PS They are extremely tasty!)

No advice here. My MW encourages a certain brand of prescription prenatals unless the mom is having trouble keeping them down. They have what she likes as the "right" amount of all the truly critical stuff. But, I would just ask your dr. I don't guess it would hurt to supplement DHA to reach the same amount that was in your previous prenatal. Also check the folic acid. Some OTC prenatals only have 800mg of folate and the recommended amount is now 1000mg, so you may want to supplement that, too, if it's a little short. Good thing they taste good! When I was at my sickest, the prenatals were always a struggle to keep down.

My midwife recommends all pregnant women take an additional fish oil pill but my prenatal has it and i really don't want to take more than what i already am. I've never taken the gummies but i know some ladies in our DDC were.

I'm taking the gummi vites but my OB said to take additional iron with them (I have to take extra iron anyway bc of my anemia). They're much easier to handle than the pills.

I'm taking a vitamin that's separated into two pills, one in the morning and the other in the evening to keep the calcium and iron separate. They are smaller than the original vitamins I was taking which were all in one and the proverbial horse pill. Maybe you could try a vitamin split in 2 if you are having trouble swallowing them.

I tried gummy vitamins with my first baby but they made me sick and my doctor didn't like them because she said they are low on some key vitamins. Maybe it was just the brand I'm not sure. There is a DHA pill you can buy, its called Expectia (sp?) its roughly $10 a month around here.

Thanks Ladies! I'll definitely be checking with my doctor to make sure I'm getting all the right stuff. She gave me a prescription with my last daughter, but just said to do over the counter this time. I don't mind swallowing the big pills, but the gummies are much easier.
