So I know some of you may not be religious, and that's perfectly fine, but I wanted to get any opinions on this. Feel free to answer, but I'm not looking for a huge debate or any arguments between anyone, so please let us all respect each other and their right to believe the way they do.

My question is this: At what point do you believe the soul enters the body? If you'd like to explain why you believe this, please do, I really value any and all opinions.

The reason I am asking is because as many of you may know, I was PG once before we were blessed with Elias, but it was an ectopic. When I asked how big the baby was, or how far along I was at the point they found it, they told me a size but would not answer me as to if there was a heart beat yet or not. I fear that they didn't want to say because there HAD been a heart beat and they didn't want me to feel worse about it needing to end. So my question is really in thought as to if they baby I lost had a soul already or not, that's why I ask.

Thank you all who answer.

Based on Theo I would say his soul entered him around 1 month after he was born. I tend to equate soul with personality.

I don't really have a direct answer. I have a hard time viewing a 6 week old blurb as a life, just because it might have a heartbeat. Therefore I definitely can't see it having a soul already either. With that said, I have no idea exactly when I feel they do, but definitely before birth.

Personally, I think there's a soul at conception but in a very sleepy state and the individual slowly gains awareness on this plane with age. I also believe in multiple lifetimes and greater purpose than life/death/good/bad so this concept is comforting to me.
I too suffered an ectopic loss and struggled with similar questions as well as guilt at what I had done (even though my other option would have only prolonged the inevitable and likely have left me damaged or dead). I took comfort (once the worst of the pain faded) in the thought that there was a reason (I and perhaps they had something to learn) it happened and the (little one's) soul wasn't a helpless infant but a thinking individual who chose to participate. Indeed, I did learn a great deal from that loss.

My belief is at conception. I has a miscarriage at 13 weeks in April of 2011. After that loss, I sank into the deepest depression. Then I had a dream that changed my life. I was holding a beautiful baby girl, and my entire family was with me. I was confused because even in my dream I was aware that I had suffered a miscarriage. Then I heard God's voice . He told me he wanted me to see her so that I could say goodbye and deal with my grief. He also told me I would see her again.

At conception, however, I believe even this early if the soul ( baby) has passed, our lost loved ones watch over that soul, and the soul still continues to grow and thrive on the other side.

You should check out Long Island Medium...she's connected with several women who have had miscarriages. It's very interesting!

I think a soul enters their body in utero, but I think it's different for each baby. Some, I think, do enter at conception but others, I think, enter the body as mom is preparing for labor.

I'm not sure when a soul actually ENTERS a body. I have read a lot of things about reincarnation, soul's journeys, birth and death, etc. There are some thinkers who believe that a soul doesn't enter a body until after birth. When you think about it, does anyone remember anything about their birth or even time as a very small baby? It could be that birth can be so traumatic an event that the soul waits until after to enter. Same goes for death, and I'm not sure 100% what I believe at this point, but I think there is a case for the soul LEAVING the body prior to the actual moment of death. My dad had an NDE many years before he passed and all he reported was calm and love. He saw himself on the hospital gurney and then saw the classic tunnel and gates of a garden. When he actually passed in 2010, I was present when he died, and believe I witnessed the moment his soul left his body - his face changed. It was a good half hour before his heart stopped beating.

What I am fairly clear about is that I don't believe the moment the soul ENTERS the body to be all that important to your question - more the moment the soul ATTACHES itself to a body or commits to a particular incarnation. I believe, from things I have heard and sensed during my reading meditations, and many things I have heard about moms bonding through dreams and meditation with their unborn babies, even being given names or speaking to them in dreams, that the destined soul draws close to the prospective parents even before conception in some cases, and certainly at conception. I saw and spoke to Michaela in a meditation when I was around 5 months pregnant. I was also correct in my initial intuitions that I was having a boy with Daniel and a girl with Michaela. I have sensed male or female feeling souls around ladies on the TTC board when doing readings for them and had feedback later to say I was right.

Based on this, Tina, I believe the soul of the baby you lost will have been around you, but it wouldn't have suffered, though may have learned from the experience. I'm sure it would have connected with you. Sometimes lost babies come back in the form of a healthy sibling. Sometimes they stay on the other side and act as guardian angels to us. Please feel welcome to PM me if you want to talk about this in any greater detail, or to ask this question at the Spiritual Living board.

I say conception, but that's based on my personal religious views . Juliette was a twin at conception and I've had 2 dreams so far of her having a twin brother.

I think the soul enters the body at some point in the 2nd trimester when a baby reaches viability. I don't really think a group of cells that may or may not be able to grow and thrive (in the case of ectopic PGs and micarriages) count as people yet. Or maybe it happens during the transition from embryo to fetus.

Thank you to all who took the time to answer. You've all given me a lot to think about. I wondered about it all for a long time, still do. So having others to talk to and getting more opinions on the matter really help me to see it in other ways. Still not sure what I believe, but I do believe it all happened for a reason, though I may never know the reason, i trust in GOD that there was a purpose.

I think it happens at birth when they take that first breath. Almost as if they are breathing in their soul.

I believe as soon as a baby is conceived their soul enters them. The way I see it, as long as there is life in a person, no matter how small that person is, they have a soul.

I believe that life begins at conception and as such the soul is there at that moment as well. I've had one miscarriage and it was heartbreaking, even though it was early that was my child, a person.

Conception. Absolutely. I definitely believe my children, and every child, was a unique individual from the moment of conception, the moment that blood was formed within those cells. My children were noticeably all different from each other, even when I felt their first movements, but they were moving long before I ever felt them, or saw them move. Their personalities have translated from the womb to who they are now, so, I don't see how I could ever doubt that they were real people with real souls from the moment their lives were set into being.

I believe that certain things in life are left to be a mystery. If I were to have to pinpoint it, I would also say conception. I believe that we live in a fallen world and because of that, there are so many sad things and hard choices to make such as dealing with eptopic pregnancies. Its such a heart breaking thing to go through and so hard to process.
