Does anyone know if alcohol leaves the breastmilk once it's been pumped?
On Saturday we went out to dinner and I had some sangria. I gave Colin a bottle for his last feeding and pumped to relieve myself.
I saved the milk in the fridge and I was wondering if I can freeze it. It doesn't seem like alcohol would leave the breastmilk once it's been pumped, but I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere...maybe here.
I think I'm going to buy some alcohol test strips just to make sure...

I think the general rule is that if you are feeling the alcohol, then you shouldn't nurse. If you feel good and sober, you're OK to nurse or pump and feed or whatever. I don't think the milk will change after being pumped, but I could be wrong.

Alcohol flows in an out of breastmilk the same way it does with our blood. The exact amount of alcohol in your blood is the amount in your milk. If you pumped while you were still even a *little* buzzed, there will be alcohol in it. Once it's pumped it can't leave the milk.

Hope this helps!

If you just had one drink your prob fine. My friend got the strips and she said she had a glass of wine and tested her milk and there was nothing in it.

I got strips but I have yet to even have a drink. I keep saying I am going to have a drink but I don't ever get one.
