Yeah, I know it's early to think about, but I'm a compulsive planner.

I'm torn on what to do for Kira's first birthday.

1) Just family. This would be me/hubby, my mom, and my in-laws (who are flying in for the week).
PROS: Very simple; just go to a park and have some deli food and a small cake.
CONS: Potential to be incredibly boring (for us, I mean)

2) Family + friends from Kira's playgroup (i.e. kids the same age)
PROS: Also simple, could do park, kids could play together
CONS: I don't know all the moms very well and it might be awkward to invite only a subset of the playgroup moms/kids? Also, would it be weird since the kids' birthdays are all around the same time?

3) Family + select friends from all of our social groups (playgroup, hockey friends, board game playing friends etc)
PROS: Lots of people to celebrate, would be fun, great memories
CONS: Large party means lots of planning, would invariably neglect to invite someone and there would be drama, most of our friends' kids are older, so I would have to plan for a wide age range

Bah! Thoughts?

For Jackson's first birthday which is probably what I'll do for Jacob's first birthday, we did a party at our house. We invited family and a select group of friends. I only invited friends with kids around the same age. My friends with older kids didn't really get upset because they knew that I wouldn't really have anything planned for their kids. We bought lots of hamburgers and hotdogs and just grilled out and then had cake then opened presents so not too much planning. If you do it at a park, you might think about buying pizza which would be easy. i wouldn't worry too much about hurting anyone's feelings especially if they have kids because I'm sure they know all too well that you just can't invite everybody.

Thank you *Kiliki* for my beautiful siggy

The first birthday is a big deal in Korean culture (JR is 1/4 Korean). He will wear a special outfit, have lots of pictures taken, eat lots of food, and choose an item from a table (it's supposed to predict their future). It's supposed to be a huge party but we do a smaller family gathering!

Here's a pic of the outfit JR will wear. It's the same one DH wore on his first birthday!

Thanks to Claire1979 for the terrific siggy!

It's already out of control. My paren't have an acre of just grassy space, so that's where I'm having the party. It's a vintage circus/carnival theme. I've been all over pinterest getting ideas. We are having pony rides. Yes, I know, out of control lol. I'm planning on setting up several little game booths, like ring toss, the fishing game, and things like that. We will also grill out.

I'm inviting all of our family, which is pretty large, plus my close friends, whether they have kids or not.

Chase's first birthday was pretty big- Elmo made an appearance and there was face painting. It was at my dad's with a big backyard and we made all the food.

Cole's will be just like Chase's but Nemo/under the sea themed. I'm going to have a bouncy because there will be a lot of kids aged 2-7 there and then a kiddie pool for the babies. We will invite family and friends- there's a lot of them lol.

Thanks so much *Kiliki* for my awesome summer siggie!

We have a family gathering every year and this year it just happens to be the weekend following Nick's birthday. We will be heading out to Alberta to my Aunt's retreat and all of the family will be there not just the local ones. I'm not sure what will happen party-wise but there will definitely be cake.
