Has anyone else's baby gone from sleeping all night to waking frequently?

From 7 weeks until 5 1/2 months, Pippa slept an average of 10-12 hours each night. Even if I tried to wake her to nurse in order to avoid having to pump, she refused to wake up. Now, there is no pattern to her sleep at all. She could wake every hour, or she could stay away until 3:00 a.m. like last night.

Two pediatricians told me that it can be milestones or teething preventing her from sleeping. At least if I'm up, I have really great company.

Summer was sleeping through the night, with one or two quick nursing sessions, usually at 1am and 4am. Then she started teething. UGH and now it's been hell. No telling what our night will be like. Sometimes she's up every 45 minutes and sometimes she will give me a few 2 hour stretches. It's been a mess but I'm finally getting used to it... kinda.

I now fully expect to get no sleep. That way I'm ready when it happens.

Yep...we are all over the place right now. He will give us some 3 hour stretches occasionally, but we can predict it, so we might be awake that whole time if its evening, not knowing we should be sleeping. The worst though right now is his refusal to nap out of my arms. He's up the instant I try to lay him down. And even in my arms, he won't take a full nap...wakes up cranky usually after little 30 minute catnaps. It has been this way for so long, I am starting to doubt it's just a phase. And my main trouble is, I have to make sure I am getting two of my kids home schooled. We are managing, but it's driving me nuts not to have a clear cut schedule. We are having to chop the day up because of all the naps that I have to nurse and rock him through. It's getting really old.

Emmett's sleeping has been a mess. Up every hour almost. At first he wasn't napping enough in the day and we fixed that and he started back with 8 hr stretches. Then he would wake up and immediatly stand up so I couldn't pat him back to sleep. So now I'm swaddling him so he can't get up lol. Then teeth popped thru. Now he has separation anxiety. It's always something!

Today the pedi was all "he should be taking two two hr long naps and going to bed between 7:30 and 8 and sleeping all night." Ummm sounds nice. Sign me up!

I never thought it possible, but his sleep has regressed as well. I get stretches of 45 min or up to 2 hours. Never know what its going to be. I was talking to a sleep specialist, and she said anywhere between 5 and 7 is a reasonable bed time, earlier if he's trying to drop the 3rd nap (this child just doesn't sleep). So Cam goes to bed between 5:15 and 5:30 usually. And by bed, I mean just doesn't come back downstairs (I put him in the middle of my bed). Typically he'll wake up and nurse around 7, 8:30, 10, 12, 2, 3, 5, and 6:30 - give or take. His two-three naps are preceded by at least an hour of screaming no matter what I do. I don't wait until he's overtired, but he definitely is by the time he falls asleep and I don't know what to do to get him to nap better which I know will help his night sleep. At least he normally just nurses and goes back to sleep at night. That's why we're are possibly hiring the specialist. I just can't do it anymore. Its been 6.5 months.

Rylan doesn't exactly wake up but she wakes me up. I put her down in her crib when she falls asleep for the night...usually around 9:30 or 10pm and she will sleep about 2 or 3 hours peacefully (it's the only decent sleep I ever get). After that she starts crying out but her eyes are still shut so I pick her up and put her in the bed with me to nurse. Multiple times a night she will whimper wanting to nurse but never opens her eyes. If I position her fast enough then she doesn't wake up. I am just exhausted...lol

***I forgot to add...for awhile there...she would sleep for nearly 12 hours at a time overnight. from about 9pm to about 9am on the days I didn't have to work/get her up for daycare. I miss those days....lol

We are having the same issue, but I can't say it's sleep regression because she never slept well anyway. Ever. I'm over the night time feedings, that's for sure!

Oz slept through the night from 9 weeks until just after 4 months when he suddenly started waking every few hours. It has taken almost 3 months to slowly get back to sleeping through, and sometimes he'll still wake up to feed now.

Sarah actually sleeps pretty good at night. maybe it's just my perspective though. She nurses to sleep between 7 and 8. We usually go to be between 8 and 9. She usually wakes up between 10 and 12 and I co-sleep with her on the couch the rest of the night. Some nights she's latched all night other nights she isn't at all. She has been sick this week and has been more cranky but still hasn't been too bad.

Caleb is up a few times a night. If I give him the boob for comfort he's happy and goes right to sleep. Last night DD was sick and my mom came to take care of him and she had an awful time getting him back to sleep and then he only slept on her.

*Thank you kiliki for the siggy!*

We went through this for a couple of months, but the past week or so, she's been sleeping 8+ hours again!

yup... she won't nap long unless we are holding/laying down with her. She won't sleep by herself either. She startles sooo easily. It started when she got some teeth, and continues...

Caroline started doing this about a month ago. She was the same way - slept through the night for months, now I cant even get her to nap! I called the pediatrician in tears the other day after she was awake for 10 hours straight and asked them what it is that I'm missing. There has to be something! She cut two teeth so I don't think it's teething at this point. I guess it's pretty common, but they want to see her just to make sure it isn't anything medical (she has a murmur but I really think she's just stubborn like her mommy ). We're doing Motrin at night now before bed. It helped a little last night. She woke up 8 times (GASP!) but I just had to turn on her sound machine and give her back her paci. I've got a call in to my friends sister who is a pediatric sleep specialist. I'll let you know if I hear anything helpful. Good luck and I feel your pain!

Caroline is EXACTLY the same way. These babies are all part of some widespread anti-sleep terrorist organization who set out to make their mommies nuts! Have you tried using a sound machine? That helps keep Caroline from hearing us move around. It may help your little lady (sorry, still trying to learn names!) stay asleep and not get startled.

I didnt see this coming! Kata has been a great sleeper, even if wakes to nurse she goes right back to sleep. However, the past week or so a new trend has erupted. She wakes around 12-1 (though last night it was at 3!) to have a little party. She happily plays about 30 minutes then goes back to sleep. Eh, its not that terrible but it does disrupt my sleep.

We went through it for about 6 weeks but she does seem to be improving now, sleeping through most nights and getting up at a silly hour or once in the night on occasion (usually if she hasn't had quite enough to eat during the day). Hopefully Pippa will come out the other end of it soon hon xxx
