Okay so I went to get the kids up at 530-6 and I found Luke standing on his window seal. I spanked his bottom and told him no standing on the window seal! Why dont you stand on the window seal?! He replied : I fall. I said yes you did, so no more window seal or you will fall! If you do it again you get a spanking. I am so worried. I have no idea what to do about it. That said there are, I kid you not and Im not exaggerating, 9 screws in the window, to keep it shut. They do not go in their room except to sleep. Weve tried to take precautions and limit there room to only bedtime. I just dont know what to do. If there was ever a next time, or if the window were to break, Luke may not get so lucky next time. I want ot prevent that at all cost. Any advice?

Can you put something there to block the window? Like a tall dresser or something like that?

Maybe check with a home improvement store -- they might have some advice. I'd be scared to death!

How about screwing a piece of plexiglass over the window frame? It would create an extra barrier of protection of possibly block part of the sill depending on the window design.

We have a piece over the french doors in our living room because we were always afraid that DS would one day break the glass and subsequently hurt himself.

Oh dear! I think your screws will work just fine at keeping him from opening the window, but a reinforced grate/fence from home depot might definitely be in order. Any idea why he's standing up there? Like, is he trying to get a good view? Since he's only two, expecting him to actually follow directions when you're not watching seems optimistic at best, so I think you can only childproof the heck out of it and wait for him to get bored.

If it's something he keeps doing, I might put bars across his window. It would allow you to still open it in the summer (we're huge window openers here) to let air in, but would protect him from falling. Granted, just him breaking the window by being up there would be a HUGE concern for me, since he could get very hurt just by breaking the glass (granted, windows are sturdy and really hard to break, so it would take a lot for it to happen).

I agree with finding out WHY he's doing it and helping him solve that problem might be helpful, too.

That was my thoughts, behind the panel put some plexiglass. That's so scary though!

Omg Demetra im an idiot! It occured to me hes getting up there by jumping from his bed to the window seal and I can easily move their bed. But I really love the plexiglass idea. to maybe block the window seal off. It may look a litttle awkward butits TOTALLY worth it! He climbs because he LOVES to climb! Everything and anything. He goes to the play ground and clmbs up that little "bridge" of monkey bars to get to the slide - and thats on the big kids play structure. He tries to climb fences and jumps from couch to chair - even though I dont let him (I discipline if I catch him) Ryan is even more high energy than Luke and he does the same thing, except has never climbed up the window seal. He did climb the table and I went to get him, but he saw me , thought it was a game, tried to jump off, but tripped, fell, banged the side of his head on the table and had to get 5 stitches, that was back in april. They are both extremely busy. We take them to the park almost every weekend and we have ten acres they run around on so, you would think they would be exhausted, nope. But the window thing scared me to death, I cant even believe it. Im always with them and the one time I put him upstairs in his room on time out, he opens the window, and the screen pops out and he falls. ( Only daddy puts them on time out in their room. I put them in the living room on time out, so I can keep an eye on them) im definitly going to ask Brian about putting up some plexiglass so he cant get on the window seal...
