In good news, the baby's growth is measuring good, the heartbeat is strong and baby appears to be quite active.

The rest is pretty much not good news. The nuchal translucency measurement is VERY high. We have to go see a specialist and get a bunch more tests done... amnio and CVS were mentioned, in addition to the Harmony and other blood screenings. The state will pay for all the testing since we're so high risk.

The worst part is that, apparently due to the large amount of fluid surrounding the baby, baby's heart is working overtime and this puts us at a very high risk of miscarriage.

I forgot to add, here is a bonus adorable pic of baby with tiny arms and legs Makes me feel a bit better about all of this.

I am so sorry. The NT screening can have false positives, so try not to worry too much until further testing is done.

Weil I am crossing my fingers that your test all come back negative! And everything resolves with baby's fluid levels, I had too much fluid with my son, when I was around the same amount of weeks pregnant as you are they brought me back for another ultrasound to check progression of things and within a few weeks it resolved itself and the levels evened out. Hugs!!

Cute little baby!!!

No money shot today... baby was active but kept their back to us. but on the bright side, I'll find out the sex with a CVS or blood screening anyway.

Thanks for all your support everyone. We're keeping our chins up. I can tell DH is not doing great though, he keeps going and eating cookies

I know you must be worried, so I won't say not to. However, the NT is just a screening and most screens give many false positives, this one is the same. I pray that is the case and that your fluid levels even out. Praying for you and your sweet baby!

LURKING. I just want to let you know that i read your post... I also had issues withy NT scan... I'm 37 weeks now with a little girl, who happens to have Down Syndrome. If you need an extra "shoulder" you can pm me or post... I know how hard it is to hear something could be wrong. Try not to stress and take literally one day at a time!!! Try to remember that not every case if a thickened NT is associated with abnormality. my scan results were actually on the higher side of the normal range. So we did the first trimester blood screening just as an added step and that is what showed as abnormal. Based on that blood work we had the maternity 21 test which showed positive for DS.

I'm sorry you're going through this - I know there is nothing I can say to make it better - but please know you are in my thoughts.

The fluid behind the neck alone, although an indicator, is not a guaranteed.

You are going through the hardest part now - the high likeliness, but no answers right away. When we went through what we did in June we found it almost got easier once we got answers as we were able to make informed decisions and move forward. I hope you get some solid answers quickly (and when you are considered 'high risk' they do rush everything for you) - and I hope those answers turn out to be all is well and your little one is healthy.

Please keep us posted - and if you need to talk to someone, feel free to message me!

Your little one is adorable!!!

Allie, I hope that tonight you and DH can comfort each other. This isn't easy for either of you, and sometimes talking is difficult because what we MEAN to say and the words that actually come out of our mouths do not come out in harmony.

First, I want to share that I am 38 and I knew my mom was worried about an amino for me because of my age. At the first appt she asked if I would need one and the dr told her that some genius figured out that when the baby is shedding skin cells and hair in the womb, their DNA cells are being filtered through our bodies so now almost never is an amino the best option. The risk alone isn't worth it for simple answers. They will draw blood from us before they will do the amino. That said, I think you might want to prepare for the vampires in the labs to draw more blood from you than the rest of us now... I am sorry. Arm you self with a sharpened wooden pencil and have a nice garlicky lunch before you step foot in there. I can't promise they won't attack, but you might be less appealing while they are sucking your blood.

And second, my DH and I met a couple in our first parenting classes at the hospital with DS. They had similar results. They prepped for a Down's syndrome child. And she came out perfect. No delays, no disabilities, no reason to worry these poor parents for 3/4 of her pregnancy. I'm not saying it works out this way in every case, because my DH has a cousin and I have a family friend who are both seriously developmentally delayed adults. But, we love and accept them for what they can do and the kind souls that they are. And if you could only imagine my 5 yr old son following a 28 yr old autistic man around the house on thanksgiving practically begging for a noogie and a reason to yelp with glee, your heart would soar. We all had a good laugh when this cousin mumbled something, we don't know what, and my DS giggled and said, "I can't understand you" and was really trying to engage him in play. This is the same cousin who learned I was pregnant and went home and packed up 30 or 40 VHS movies because they were kids movies and "the baby would want them so we needed them". That's true love. Movies are precious to him. They are his collection.

There is so much love in any child. This one is still finding their path within you. It will all be okay.
