Does anyone have any advice for getting the best results out of a NST? I have one scheduled for next Tuesday and they mentioned having something to eat before would ensure that baby is active. I can't have more than 30g of carbs in a snack, so things like a Coke or something sweet, are out for me.

Well I had one last night and he fell asleep during it. The doc came in and was shaking my stomach around that didn't even wake him up lol so they gave me some apple juice and some cookies and he perked right up!

I had a sudden NST today. If there is anything that you normally eat that gets baby active, I would eat that ahead of time. I had ice water at the hospital while the test was going on, and that helped get baby to move about.
Otherwise, I think they want to see what baby typically acts like, so you wouldn't want to eat or drink anything our of the norm just to get baby active.

Why do you need your NST? Is everything ok?
Thank-you Bokkechick for the beautiful siggy!

Gestational Diabetes apparently warrants the NSTs starting at 34 weeks. My MFM doc really must like me though, because he said I could wait until 36 weeks. Ice water, the colder the better, always seems to get him going. I think the goal is to make sure he doesn't sleep through the test like mentioned above. I don't think I'll have a problem though because as long as I am sitting/laying down he's awake.

I second the ice water... My NSTs are always an adventure! Seems like both never stay on the monitor

I haven't had any NSTs this time, but did with both of my previous pregnancies. I didn't have gd then, so I'd do a coke or something. This time I would go with ice water like others have said. It always seems to get her moving on a normal day.
