Hello, I was wondering if any of you found out how much the baby shrinks up after they pass. If I was 23 weeks and the baby was measuring 19 weeks. Was the baby not growing, or was that the shrinking sizes of the baby. Just was wondering if anyone knew the answer to that.

They don't shrink for quite some time, but I'm not sure exactly how long. From the time they pass they will actually gain weight/size because of post-mortem fluid buildup.

My guess is that a smaller than gestational age baby slowed and stopped growing before passing away.

I'm so very sorry for your loss.

My abby was born at 27 weeks 5 days and she was the size of a 23 weeker! We know that she died within a week since they heard the heartbeat. So they told me that she probably quit growing a few weeks earlier. Hope that helps
Thank you Mistyx5 for my siggy.

Thats what is was wondering. I had a drs. appointment at 21 weeks and heard the heartbeat. He made the u/s appointment. At my ultrasound 23 weeks the baby was measuring 18/19 weeks. I thought the baby stopped growing but I cannot be sure. Then Dr that delivered the baby said they shrink or what not, whatever the term he used making them smaller than they should. But I figured 23 weeks as opposed to 19 weeks is a big difference. I guess I still just needed to know if they baby stopped growing first. I don't know whatever happened so sometimes I'm just not satified with that.
