How hard is it to make your own diapers? I have seen a few patterns out there, but I am a quilter...can do a straight stitch on a machine and a curved but how hard is it to do the elastic and stuff?

Also, how hard is it to make fitteds? I think I would want to make more of those for the baby. Josh likes the idea of something that does NOT require a cover... Not like he changes a lot of diapers anyways!

Brave! I would much rather pay someone else then do it myself, LOL. I suck at sewing!

I think I am pretty good at sewing. I have a few aunts around that can help if I needed but at this point my DH is FREAKING out about how much it costs to buy them...LOL!!

I would try it. I plan on trying to make some when I get preggo (I have to convince DH to ttc first). Start with some cheap fabric.

Let us know how it works for you. I personally can't sew to save my life, and I keep people in business!

I found this site: http://www.diaperkit.com/catalog/
Where they give you all the instructions and it comes cut for you!
Which is what I am going to do to start sewing my own, I figure once I get the hang of it I will be good to go! J/L

Its really not that hard! the most i had sewn before i started sewing diapers was girl scout badges on a vest about 4/5 years ago. It is very daunting just because it seems like alot. Your first diapers will probably look goofy but will more than likely function. Then from there you will just keep getting better and better at it. We have a sticky on how to make your own cloth diapers that should help you out alot also there is a craft chat section on diaperswappers that will help you out as well. Fitteds are easy to sew IMO that is what i started out sewing and that is what i still sew now. The elastic is not hard it just takes a bit to get used to. Practice practice practice!!! before you know it you will get addicted to sewing them.
