What do you use for a diaper pail? Is it necessary to get one from a cloth diaper website like this Diaper Pail with flip top lid or can I just get a Rubbermaid one with a flip top like this
10 Gal Wastebasket & Lid at Menards

I guess my question is do you want to have a air tight lid or a lid that let's air in?

Also do you put solied prefold/inserts & covers/pocket diapers in the same bin or separate?

I got a regular garbage can with a flip top lid (the kind you push and it pops open) from Target. It was about 2 feet high I think. When my baby was EBF I wouldn't use the top because his poop didn't smell at all. When he started solids it started to stink so we definitely used the lid. Eventually the lid broke and my son was curious always trying to get into it anyway so I switched to a hanging wet bag. I used planet wise liners and planet wise hanging wet bags. I wouldn't go out of my way to order a trash bin online since it doesn't need to be anything special.

I would throw everything together--wipes, diapers, covers, inserts..you name it. Then just empty it right into the washing machine and separate the covers before drying. HTH!

Ditto above! No need for anything special. I have a regular trash bin but ended up using my planetwise hanging totes and they are perfect for 2-3 days of wash. I have 2 so I can swap them out. Everything goes in the bag together and the bag goes in the wash. I hang everything in the sun when I feel up to it or just remove covers/pocket shells and hang in the bathroom and dry the rest. Working well here!

I am going to be using wetbags, but I have heard that a regular trash can without a lid is fine. I guess if there is air flow, it will avoid ammonia stink. Also, you can put everything in together.

Oh yes! I forgot about the ammonia stink. If it's a very hot day it can get REALLY bad when the lid is on. Like it will burn your eyes when you go to open it up lol. So ventilation and don't get backed up on laundry lmao!

I am also using a large planet wise wet bag but if I didn't have my wet bag I would go the trash can with foot pedal option.

I have an open wastebasket. It's small, so I think I'll upgrade before baby comes. But I don't have a lid on it and no stink issues.

I have two diaper champs. I have one in my bedroom and one in the family room. I throw everything in together. Even disposable wipes go in and I pick them out of the drier. There isn't any smell. I use a dry PUL bag.

I use this:

It's a 1 cubic foot portable washing machine. I just throw everything into it and once a day or so I run it. If I don't get a chance to run a full wash, I can at least run a cold rinse. It's really not that much bigger than a diaper genie would be.

I actually bought it used on Craigslist. We installed it into the closet in the bathroom and plumbed it directly into the hot water heater and sink (DH rocks at fixing things).

That is awesome!!!! I want one!!!!

We use small trash can, and I usually leave the lid open. It's in the laundry room, so on occasion when it is a little stinky, it isn't a big deal.

I blogged a review on the diaper pail we use. I have been leaving it open, but it does seal tight and I like that feature for when Baby starts showing interest in the pail and what goes in it.. I don't want any messes from baby pulling soiled diapers out of the bin!

I've used cans with pail linners and didn't care for it. After trying a zippered hanging wet bag, I'll never use anything else. Planetwise is great.
