I wash in dawn & borax, so I don't think it's buildup???? I tried bleaching them (they had major ammonia stink), that got rid of the stink, but still repelling. My hemp inserts are fine, no repelling in the slightest. Suggestions?

Did you wash the hemp with the fleece before the hemp was set? If so, it could have released oil in to the fleece causing it to repell.

I wash mine a little different, using Allen's & Calgon water softener. I didn't know you could use dawn with every load. It could possibly be soap build-up, or if you're drying - maybe residue from dryer sheets?

No fleece problems, just microfiber. Don't use dryer sheets, haven't since I started cd'ing. And they're all older inserts, over a year old, and haven't had this problem in the past. I'm at a loss. I tried dishwasher stripping last night and there were a few clear bubbles in the bottom, but not even enough to call them suds. They're in the dryer now, so we'll see if that helped.

Do you use any essential oils in your wetbag or wash (like tea tree or lavender), or in your wipes solution (if you wash wipes with dipes) or even an herbal bum salve? Even a few drops can do it, essential oils cling to the synthetic fibres of the MF inserts and build up over time.

None of those. I'm at a loss, I may just have to give up on microfiber and just stick with hemp. I tried dishwasher stripping. I ran that dishwasher 4 (or was it 5?) times. There were never any suds in the bottom. A few clear bubbles, but nothing more. It made zero difference. Still repelling.

Yeah, I ran them thru 4 or 5 times. I've heard that sometimes it takes several cycles for the suds to come out, so I kept running it hoping to see suds. There were a few clear bubbles in the bottom each time, but never any suds. It didn't make a bit of difference. They're still repelling.

I don't know if I have hard water, but if I have hard water, could that cause them to repel? If that was the culprit, what would the solution be?

Hard water could very well be the culprit. We have hard water and we have to clean out our coffemaker at least once a month, the mineral deposits leave a filmy residue inside the water reservoir - I imagine the same thig could be happening with your microfibre inserts, microfibre does hold residue more than other fabrics. There is a product that is made for this, removing mineral deposits and detergent buildup, it's called RLR Laundry Treatment. You can get it a few places online, here's one: RLR @ Zannadu Diapers or you could try finding it in the laundry aisle of your supermarket, likely near the Borax or other specialty laundry aids. It would probably be on a hanging rack like they have novelty items on, rather than just on the shelf. It looks like this:

I have some and can get more locally too I'd be happy to send you some if that would be easier. It's only about $3, worth a try...

I too never saw suds when I stripped in the dishwasher. Even my shampoo doesn't lather as much as it does when I'm at my mom's her water is not as hard as ours.

Thanks, Crissy! I'll try that. My inserts do have kind of a grey look to them, which I've heard is common with hard water. I don't have problems with shampoo lathering though. IDK. I'm just at a loss. I'll check for the RLR next time I'm out shopping. Would I need to use it every wash, or just occasionally?
