Originally I wanted to throw my own shower. Have things the way I want and pay for it myself. I now have a host. I read somewhere that you should get the host a gift. Any comments on this?

While I'm on the subject. What are the "rules" for the shower. What parts do I play in it. Should I provide food, drinks, etc?

I guess I just feel a little odd having someone do this for me, although she was more than happy to be apart of it. I know it's not going to "break the bank" for my host but I just would like to help in anyway.

I don't have any suggestions as far as a hosting gift but I think it would be easy enough to get something little for her to show her appreciation.
I have been thinking of doing the same thing. The friends I have the originally wanted to do it are kinda out of the picture now...they are still friends but I don't hang out with them as much because they go out to drink etc.. and my Mom wanted to "help" or throw one for me but not only would she drive me completely mad doing it, I also know she doesn't have the means to do it the way I would like it to be done. Not that it has to be fancy I just don't want it to be poorly done either.
I am curious to see what others say.

Obviously I haven't had a baby shower before, but for my wedding showers, I got gifts for each of the hostesses. For one set of ladies, I got a personalized bow block note pad (google, they are cute), and a matching coffee mug with a small trial size gourmet coffee or tea. For another shower, I got my aunt and cousins who threw it a personalized fleece blanket. I think any little gift would be great, it's not about how much it costs or what it is, but about the "thank you" that it means!

Thanks *Kiliki* for my amazingly perfect siggy!

The gift can be whatever you think would be appropriate.

Ettiquette would say that the mom-to-be should not have any part in the planning or hosting of the shower. I doubt that actually happens these days, I know my showers, the hosts asked my opinion on food and dates and all that.
