Do any of your Dr.'s not do an u/s until the 18 week area? I made my first appt for 10/29 when I will be 7wks 2days. I asked what we will do at the appt and she told me we will listen for the heartbeat. I asked if there will be an u/s and she told me not until about 18 weeks. When I asked her if they don't do an early u/s she said something like unless the Dr. does one in the room or something along those lines. With my other two pregnancies they didn't wait that long (not the same office). That's how I knew my twins were twins at about 8 weeks. I really want to be able to see something, but I will settle for hearing the heartbeat. I'm just worried that if we don't hear a heartbeat yet that she won't do an u/s at least to put my mind at ease.

I had a doctor like that with my first twin pregnancy. They usually just did the 18 wk ultrasound. However, when I went to listen for heartbeats, she found the two heartbeats and then brought in the ultrasound for confirmation of twins. In my second pregnancy, when they didn't find the heartbeat at 12 weeks really easily they brought in the u/s no problem. I am sure the doctor will bring one it, especially if they have thoughts you might be carrying twins again

With my daughter, I didn't get an u/s until 22 weeks! It was torture. It was originally planned for 20 weeks but I ended up being in the hospital for a kidney infection and had to reschedule. I learned after that to lie and say I was unsure of my dates even if I wasn't lol. That's what I said with my son and I got a dating u/s around 8 weeks.

With my first, even being high risk, I didn't have a scheduled U/S until 19 weeks. Of course, I fell down the stairs at 9wks and started spotting, so they did one to just make sure everything was ok, but that was out of the ordinary.

Usually, they try to hear the heartbeat first. My regular OB has a level 1 U/S that he uses if he can't find a heartbeat. If there are concerns, he then refers patients for a level 2 U/S.

With both of my pregnancies I only got an U/S at 18-19 weeks, this time I have an U/S at 7 weeks. But it was booked before I got pregnant, just a pelvic U/S, so I'm excited to hopefully get to see a heartbeat around 7 weeks! My last pregnancy that ended in M/C at 11w 4days I never did get to see or hear a heartbeat at all!

A lot of offices are doing that. We wouldnt have had an early one with our 3rd but we couldnt find the HB at 11 weeks with the doppler so my MW ordered one for my piece of mind.

I have a midwife. She doesn't do ultrasounds so I'll have to pay for one out of pocket. With my dd, we got our first ultrasound at 12 weeks.
