What are your thoughts on coloring during pregnancy? I've read that its fine AND I've read to avoid coloring throughout pregnancy AND I've read to wait until after the first trimester. What's your rule?

I'll do it as it needs it (which it will soon!) like I have with each of my pregnancies

I have always colored my hair etc, I just make sure I am in a well ventilated area and avoid times when there are lots and lots of ladies getting their colors done at the same time! So I go early in the morning

I will wait after the first trimester, then I'll make sure I'm in a well ventilated area. I'll probably only do it twice (2nd trimester, 3rd trimester).

Well, since this wasn't planned, and some of my hair is blue, I'll have to figure something out at some point.

When I was pregnant in August, I had my sister do my roots out on my deck so it was really well ventilated. I had a m/c a few days later. I am paranoid now even though I am sure it had nothing to do with it. I will probably wait until after the first trimester. My roots are bad now too.

I color as needed. The place I go to is very open and well ventilated and I have never had problems with either of my other pregnancies.

I got mine highlighted 2 days before I found out I was pregnant, but I'm not worried. I used to think you HAD to wait until after the 1st trimester. I kept reading "well ventilated area". But seriously....as long as you're not in a closet or tiny bathroom I'm sure it's fine.

I actually JUST got highlights this past saturday! The hairdresser told me that highlighting is the better route to take during pregnancy but I did color my hair with my last pregnancy and everything was fine...just make sure your in a well ventilated area

I went to Cosmetology school pregnant and colored once a month. I did perms and relaxers in a school that had a ton going at the same time. Its really not a big deal. Your reaction to the color might be different so just pay attention to your scalp while sitting with the color on

I just use a semi-permanent kit to blend grays, so I'm thinking it won't be a problem as long as I take common sense precautions.

I plan to go after the first trimester. In the mean time I use this mascara looking thing meant to cover grays

Before I quit the salon to stay at home with dd my guidelines for pregnant clients were as followed:
Coloring is okay! Well ventilated is key.
Highlights are okay but only if it's going to process at room temp. No sitting under the dryer!
The ladies that wanted an all over color or wanted highlights with an all over color, I would try to steer them towards a demi-permenant color rather than permanent because the demi will fade out to the natural color and it's not so hard to maintain without it looking awful if you go a good bit between colorings.
