Is there anyone who lives far from their family? I'm at least an 8 hour drive from all family and close friends. I'm a little nervous that I won't have enough support because everyone is in a different state than I am. Sadly,i'm not that close to SO family, so i'm not sure how they will be during the pregnancy. Anyone have experience with this situation? Your input is much appreciated.

I am close to family now but with my first, we lived in Florida, they lived in Texas. It was hard, but I had AMAZING friends and really they were there for me more than family (now). I MISS my friends.

I would check meetup.com for a moms group (or Google, for that matter). I should have done that when I had my first child and we lived far from everyone. You might also consider a prenatal yoga class or something like that to meet other mothers to be. I didn't really connect with other moms ahead of time and was pretty isolated once DS was born and I was staying home.

I think things will be different this time because I am part of 2 moms groups, and we live only a few hours away from my parents now.

Hope things go well!

I have never lived close to my family since getting married, (dh was military) and the birth of my first child was states away 14-16 hrs by car from my family, but I did have an awesome group of friends that made things much easier to deal with. I suggest going to church if you attend and asking about any mom groups, perhaps MOPS, they will probably accept you even if you dont' have a preschooler because you are going to be a mom to one younger than school age. That probably depends on their chapter size though. You can also get involved at a La Leche League, which will give you great friendships, awesome support in breastfeeding and some information before you even start breastfeeding. If the local preschools know of any playgroups you could also attend one of them.
Also if those ideas don't work for you you could find a doula in your area, and even if you don't plan to use a doula she may be able to point you in the right direction to find the support you need. Doulas are required to have a list of resources availible that include support groups of all kinds. I hope this helps!

I live close to all my family and friends so unfortunately I don't have any advice for you! I'm sorry that you are in that situation. I don't know how I would manage without a great support system so I would take some of the other ladies suggestions and try and find some mommy groups in your area!!

Thank you Quantum_Leap for my fabulous signature!!!

My family is in Michigan and my Hubby's family is in Idaho/California and we live in Texas. It's gonna be tough not having family here but at least I'll have my hubby.

I don't have family here. My closest is in Tennessee (my sister) and my parents are in Ohio. This is how it has been since we have had kids so its nothing new but still sucks! My husbands family is close by, but I don't feel as comfortable asking them for help. I will probably be a SAHM after this so I will probably look for some groups to meet up with.

I hope your SOs family steps up and offers support and a helping hand.

DH and I live in Texas. His brother + sister in law live here too, but the rest of our family is ALL in Pittsburgh, PA. We're both from there originally. I'm a little worried about doing this without family here, but my mom doesn't work and I know she'd be here ASAP if I needed her.

We live in South Carolina and my parents and sister live in California :/ my mom will hopefully be able to fly out for the birth to watch our boys , and we've been blessed that she was able to be here for the birth of both of the boys as well. My MIL lives about 6 hours from us and my SIL lives about 5 hours away.
