I dont want to make this a debate but i just wanted to know if I'm in this boat by myself ...
I'm sure some may say we are self fish for getting pg( this one wasnt planned but our twins were) but it part of life .. and we feel we will not be given more then we can handle.

That being said .. Me and hubby have the sickle trait which mean we have a 25% change to give our baby the fulll blown diease.. We know this diease CAN be a terrible diease but you can live with it. We are truely scared that we may pass it on. We lucked up and had twins that dont have the diease... my son have nothing at all and my daughter has the trait.. so we hope and pray we luck up again.

Anyone else have a genetic diease they can pass on? If yes are you planning on getting a CVS or amino?
We are not sure if we will or not

I don't have anything I'm aware of. But just wanted to lend support. I don't think it's selfish at all. I mean we all have something that can be hereditary, that doesn't mean we shouldn't have kids though. Hoping that you guys get lucky again also though Btw, beautiful kids!

Both my husband and I suffer from mental disease which runs in both of our families. Honestly, we could be considered selfish for having children when they are almost guaranteed to have depression or worst. A lot of people have children despite having a chance of having sickle cell. So, no, I don't think you are selfish at all for having children despite the risk.

My DH had twin sisters born with Anencephaly and died shortly after birth. They aren't 100% sure it's not hereditary so it is always on my mind.
Thank you *Kiliki* for my beautiful siggy!

25% chance is certainly a risk but that gives the baby a far greater chance of not having the disease than having it. Maybe it's selfish, but if I were in your shoes I'd probably have done the same. I've always wanted children so badly.

i dont think you are selfish....cancer and alcoholism run rampant in my family...that doesn't mean that i do not want to have kids....and on dh's side high cholestorol seems to the common thing among the males his grandpa has it, his dad has it, his brother has it and dh has it despite the eating right stuff...
