I recently had to switch doctors because my WONDERFUL doctor left my clinic. The clinic I am at is in a semi not-so-good area, but the clinic she moved to is in a HORRIBLE area with a lot of crime and gang related incidents and I refuse to make my family and DH's family go there when I give birth. Plus, I don't think my insurance will carry over to the clinic she has moved to.

So I saw the other OB at my clinic today. He was very friendly, answered all of my questions, and made me feel fairly comfortable. I just didn't like that when he listened in with the dopplar, he just held it in one place. My baby moves around A LOT so it kind of just faded in and out. My old OB used to chase it around so I could hear a steady HB I know that's not a reason at all to dislike him but maybe that's just the way he is. He also said my anatomy scan looked awesome and everything is exactly the way it should be with baby Axe

I also asked him when I could have my next U/S, and he kind of gave me a puzzled look and said, that I am far enough along to where I won't need another until I'm between 28-30 weeks. Does that sound right? Have any of you other ladies had a doctor tell you this? I thought that it was U/S every 4 weeks until the last month when it was every 2. So I'm a little bummed about that. I miss my old OB :-( but I just can't bring myself to go to a clinic and hospital in a dangerous area that I'm not familiar with....

With both of my pregnancies, there has only been the 18-20 week anatomy scan, unless there's a medical issue. With my DD, I had an ultrasound at 14 weeks because I had a lot of bad cramping and some spotting, but everything turned out to be fine. With this pregnancy, my dates were a little wonky, so I went in at 12 weeks for a dating ultrasound. Other than those two times though, the only one that was scheduled was the 18-20 week one. Maybe it's just because I see a midwife, but I've never heard of getting that many ultrasounds unless it's medically necessary due to high risk or something like that.

That schedule (once a month and then once every 2 weeks) is my exact schedule for seeing my midwife. But ultrasounds are done by a 3rd party clinic, and I have to schedule them myself, and again - only when my midwife gives me the requisition. Maybe some doctor's offices do an ultrasound at every visit? I'm not sure.

Sorry you're bummbed out.
I went to my OB and a specialist with my boys and got an ultrasound at the specialists office every time but I only got two ultrasounds (besides the peeks I asked for) at my OB. The first one at the first visit and the second around 20 weeks.

As long as he got a beats per minute a quick listen is really all it takes. As for the u/s I have never heard of that unless there are issues. Also I am assuming you are on tricare, they only cover 1 ultrasound unless medically nessecary. It all sounds normal to me.

They dont do that many ultrasounds the gender confirmation is usually the last one they do. They have appointments once a month then every two weeks til the end. Not ultrasounds. And yea the whole point is for the dr to hear the heartbeat is strong...not really for our enjoyment.

I agree with the other ladies, that if everything is normal and healthy they usually do 1-2. Sometimes they need to check to see how the baby is lying if he isn't head down toward the end and I had one last time to check the fluid levels. I have to do more but it is to check my cervix and not the baby, so they are no fun. But that is because I have an incompetent cervix.

Yea, I only get 2 ultrasounds. One for dating in the beginning and then the anatomy scan. I know I may get one later on to check on baby but that is only if the doctor thinks it is necessary.
Sorry the doctor you really like left but I totally understand you not wanting to follow her to a bad area. Hopefully this new doctor will grow on you.

Yep that's normal. I had 2 U/S with my first son and this son as well; one to get a due date and the anatomy scan. My friend got 4 because her daughter was breech and they were concerned with that as she got closer to full term which she did end up having a C section. I wouldn't mind one more lol, but won't happen. Nothing real exciting now except the birth.

Ok makes sense to me! I have been having one every 4 weeks up until now. I think because my previous OB knew I was a chronic worrier. But I have stopped worrying so much now!

If you hear of others having additional ultrasounds, it is likely they are high risk. Due to my age (39), I had dating scan at 101/2 week, and NT scan at 12 weeks. I will have an anatomy scan at 20 weeks. If all is good, I will have a growth scan at 32,36, 37, 38 and 39 weeks. That is due to statistics. Due to age I have a greater risk of intrauterine growth restriction and poor placenta (and I intend to defy the statistics). In short some ladies get additional ultrasounds, but you don't want the risks that create the reason for them.

It is possible that you had several early scans to measure the cervix, but that typically is only done until 22-22 weeks. My OB does an 8 week for dating and the anatomy scan around 20 and no others unless you are high risk

While it is neat to get to hear heartbeats and have sonograms, they are medical diagnostic tests. Not for your enjoyment. They cost money wether you or the insurance company.

There was a small worry about my cervix early on, so they monitored that very closely until now, and it seems the worry was for nothing after all! Plus my previous OB was just very understanding about my worries, with having gone through an ectopic last February. So she just gave me appointments every 2 weeks and US every four. But all of those things cleared themselves up. So I'm not worried I was just wondering if that was how it normally was with this being my first pregnancy not complaining.. I actually do enjoy going for five minute appointments and just hearing my little ones HB....
