I had my first appointment with the nurse last week, and found out my hemoglobin is 9.5, normal is 12-15. the nurse called me and told me to take iron pills, but I have. she said she would check with my doctor and call me, but still hasnt.
Im just so tired, I could use a transfusion.

Have you been taking Vitamin C with your iron supplements? The vitamin c helps with absorption, or I would look into Floradix iron supplement...

I take liquid iron as it is absorbed better, & doesn't upset my bowels. That said it's expensive.
Hope they get back to you soon! And that you start to feel better.

The iron pills are awful and will constipate you terribly When I was diagnosed anemic I had better luck treating it with food. Always eat a vit C source with iron rich foods. A lot of yummy meals like lasagna do this already from the tomato sauce and ground red meat. Go the extra mile and drink OJ with it. Spinach salad with citrus fruits on it. Have juice with your steak. And cut out carbonation from your diet. Carbonation makes your bloods ability to carry oxygen poor and absorb iron low.

By eating several vit C foods with iron rich ones a day I was able to cure my own anemia without the iron pills. I was able to fix my nursing baby that was also anemic at the same time within a month. What we needed was a blood transfusion after birth. That whole birth was handled so poorly.
