Everyone says rest now before the baby comes...well once the nursery floors were going to be refinished next week, that's what I was going to do, but change of plans! One of our dos tore his ACL on Tuesday and had surgery yesterday. He has a metal plate in his leg now and 20 staples. Poor puppy is miserable with that big collar around his neck. He won't relax unless I am on the floor with him petting him and I keep sitting on the floor with him, but its really uncomfortable! Not to mention difficult to get up.
It's not so easy keeping our other dog separated from him either, but its crucial because if she licks his incision, it could get infected and we would need to do another surgery to remove the plate and may need to put him on months of meds to clear the infection. I went out tonight and got one of those play yards so that they could both be in the same room with us...it takes up half of our living room...between that and the nursery having to be clear for the floors, our house is an absolute mess! I hope at least we will be able to use it for baby eventually...
To top it off we are supposed to go back to have his staples removed on our due date. So now I am hoping baby comes a week late...I don't know who will take care of the pups when we are in labor either...its no longer just open the door and let the 2 dogs out for 10 min a few times a day...he is on strict restricted activity for 8 weeks and a strict medication schedule.
I know it will all work out, but its all a little overwhelming right now...

Ooooh, no fun!! I'm very thankful that my older girls are old enough to worry about the dog, but it would certainly be more difficult if he had recently had surgery and had all those precautions. I'm sure you don't need that added stress.

I'm so sorry you have to be stressed out now! I have 2 dogs as well and though this hasn't happened to me I can understand. Hopefully baby will arrive at a good time!

Sorry about the added stress! What bad timing. Poor doggie. My co-worker's dog recently had his ACL repaired and she had to give him doggie anxiety meds to get him to be calm while he recovered.
I'm sure it will all work out!

So sorry you are having to deal with that right now. A sick or injured animal is never an easy thing to handle but right now would be even worse than normal. Hope things work out for you. Would it be possible for the dog to kennel at the vet's office during labor and delivery?

^ I am going to call them tomorrow to ask...I had asked if they kennel dogs when we went on our honeymoon and they said no. i know they have a back room for recovering dogs treated there. we didn't do the surgery there because they don't have a surgeon, but maybe they would kennel him this time considering they referred us someplace else...the place that did the surgery is 40 min in the opposite direction of where I am delivering. Hoping they would be sympathetic to my condition and have availability. Otherwise, DH and my mom might need to take turns leaving the delivery.

You could try any other vets in the area as well or between you and the hospital. Might even ask at any actually kennels if there are any, some will take on dogs with special needs some will not. Good luck.
