Went in today and had our third trimester growth ultrasound. Everything looks really good! Of course, my baby has to be measuring a week ahead, and his weight is 4lbs 11oz. The tech said he's big, but she's seen bigger. The doctor was telling us he's in the 70th percentile, and they don't worry until he's in the 90th. To make sure of that, I get another growth ultrasound in 4 weeks. I hope Arthur stops this crazy growing he's doing, because I don't know what happens if he hits the 90th percentile. Does anyone have any ideas?! They didn't say, they just said we'll check in 4 weeks, but don't even think about it until then.

Anyway, baby was stubborn, and wouldn't move his arms most of the time, but he finally did and we got some cute pictures of his face!!

He's doing the rock and roll sign!

No arms in the way!!

One arm over, one arm under.

Thank you *Kiliki* for the beautiful siggy

Aw. Cute pics! I don't really know if they'd do anything except monitor for difficulty during birth or possibly induce you at 38 weeks to help lower the risk of complications. I'm a first timer, so I honestly have no idea.

I wouldnt worry about his size too much. Past a certain point ultrasounds become very inaccurate to guess the babies size. They can be off in a point in both directions. He is a handsome little man!

If he gets too big they might induce you early or recheck you for gestational diabetes. Cuz if he keeps growing and gets too big for you to deliver naturally thru your pelvis that's a c section risk. So your doc will likely monitor Arthurs growth closely so that doesn't happen.

I dot know what they would do, but I agree thy ultrasounds aren't super accurate. My friend ended up having a csection when she had her son because they said he was going to be 9 or 10 lbs and he was barely 8 when he as born.

Hi sweet baby!!

I have big babies - we are currently measuring about 4 weeks ahead at 32 weeks 2 days but measuring closer to 36 with an estimated 6 lbs 7 ounce baby already. His/her head is measuring at 38 weeks and like his/her big brother we are looking at another 9 lber +. We are in the 90 percentile and jumped up there from the 70th at our 27 week ultrasound. This little one gained 3 lbs in 4 weeks.

The ultrasounds however are estimates and best guesses based on ranges. With DS #1 we were told two days before he was born that he was measuring 11lbs but was born 9 lbs 11 ounces. Still huge and his head was still giant and after 4 days of contractions he never locked and loaded into the birth canal so we did a C-section.

From what my doctor told us today is that big babies normally mean healthier/hardier babies. There is less drama involved with getting back up to birth weight, jaundice and all sorts of things. So enjoy a big baby. As long as the fluid is okay and you do not have gestational diabetes there is nothing really you need to do or should try to do to keep the baby from growing. From what I understand the biggest risk with a big baby is C-section. However my cousin was able to deliver a 10 lb 15 ounces baby vaginally with no issue.

Thanks you guys! You've all made me feel a lot better! I just found out that on DH's side of the family, big babies are common, and me and my sisters were all 9lbs, so I shouldn't be shocked that he's going to be on the large side. I'm just going to relax and let "little" Arthur do what he sees fit to do It's a good thing I haven't detagged and washed any "newborn" sized clothes I've been gifted

Yea, I would hold off on the newborn clothes. They very well may be going back!

Bodhi has measured almost 2 weeks ahead in all my growth scans this time, but I haven't had one since 22ish weeks. I will have another one in 2 weeks. It is much less stressful than with Bourne. He measured behind the entire pregnancy and that resulted in a lot more growth/non-stress tests since IUGR is one of the concerns with clotting disorders.

Cute pics!! I wouldn't worry too much about the size on the u/s. If your doc does suggest early induction due to size, just do your research and make an informed decision. A mom in one of my other PRs just delivered a nearly 11 pound baby without drugs (quick labor).

Take the u/s weight estimate with a grain of salt. With DD, they told me she was already 5.5 pounds at 32 weeks and that babies gain a half a pound a week at that point... Yeah... She was 7lbs 3oz at birth. I mentioned it after and they said their u/s estimate must have been way off. My midwife this time also said she put no stock in the weight estimates, but the actual measurements of the body are what matters.

I've had 2 babies born at 31 weeks. One was 4lb 7oz, and the other was 4lb 2oz so they aren't too far off from what they are saying yours is. I know ultrasounds can be a pound off either direction anyway.
This baby is actually measuring a week behind, but they aren't so worried about her actual weight, as her growth curve. Babies grow just like adults and come in all shapes and sizes.

yeah take it with a grain of salt, weights are way off. I sometimes think Obs use it as a scare, to get you thinking you can not give birth to a huge baby.
