Who is using a pacifier and do you have a goal of when to stop?

We are using it whenever he wants but my goal is at 3 months (next week) to start to wean him and then be done at 4 months. I think I will start by only using it for getting him to sleep and in public for the first week and then slowly taking those times away too. He loves it still but I can tell his need to suck is getting less and he uses more because he is bored. Everything I read said if they have it longer than 6 months it becomes emotional and I don't want a 2 year old with one.

What is everyone else doing or have done with the pacifiers?

We use them and I don't plan to wean her until she is older. When she starts to teeth we will start taking them away.

Clara takes a pacifier occasionally. I plan to do the same I did with DD1. She only got it at naps, bedtime, and occasionally in the car. She was completely weaned by about 19 months with no issues.

BIG thank you to *Kiliki* for my beautiful siggy!

Shelby decided to wean herself! She absolutely refuses it now but she is a thumbsucker. Mainly when sleeping at night.

Thank Kiliki for the siggy!!

Creighton still takes his, but he has gone from having it basically all the time to only when he can't calm himself down at nap time and on very few occasions at night after his feeding. He basically is weaning himself

Same here with Lily. Of course I found this out after I purchased a ton of different ones to find out which one she would like! She just sucks on her fingers and thumbs.

Munchkin never really took the pacifier consistently, so we're done trying it. Now that he's opening his hands up much more he is sucking his hand/thumb a lot.

He relies on one quite frequently right now. If he doesn't have a pacifier, he tries to suck on his fingers and I'd rather the pacifier than a finger since weaning from a pacifier is far easier. I'll let him have one until he weans himself or until he's 2... whichever comes first. Though, at about 6mos, I'd like to start limiting the pacifier use to naps and bedtime only.

Maggie still likes to suck quite a bit so I am all for the pacifier. With my boys, Aidan was off around 11 months and Connor was off by 13 months. I'm having better luck with nursing Maggie and plan to until she is 1 yr so she'll start losing the pacifier as she starts on solids and needing to suck less. At the same time though, when she is teething the pacifier will help. Either way she'll be done with it around a year. If she isn't nursing me she shouldn't be needing the paci.

I seem to have introduced something perhaps more dangerous--my pinky. She was fussing loudly and I needed to get her home before we'd be able to feed her, so without a pacifier on hand I stuck my pinky in her mouth and she calmed immediately. Now she prefers that well over the pacifier (the boob being her all-time favorite though). But I will only do it when she's getting hysterical -- for her sake and the sake of my poor little pinky finger.

She was a comfort sucker since hour one, but it's a calming mechanism only. (I don't know if that's how it works for all kids.) When she needs to fall asleep, but can't let go, for example. When she is awake she wants nothing to do with it. Gets in the way of all that jabbering and wide grins.
