I work at a children's hospital and today I read a story about a little girl who was born at 24 weeks, weighing 1lb 5oz with little hope of survival. She is 6 years old today thanks to the awesome hospital I work at.

I was just thinking "wow, 24 weeks is only 10 weeks away for me" and so much less for many of you. I can't imagine having a baby in a few weeks, especially considering I don't even look pregnant yet.

I sincerely hope none of us have to go through this, and that if you do, you have an amazing hospital on your side to get you and your little one through it.

The thought of a baby that early is scary. I already have one special needs child, and I have no wish for a second that would likely result from early birth. My neighbor had her youngest son at 23 weeks. He's 4 now, but he's non communicative, unable to walk but does crawl, his brain doesn't even work like my Autistic child who is behind her peers, and he eats through a hole in his stomach. All from being premature. SCARY!

I hate pregnancy, but keep on baking, Eden!

8 weeks* my math is off haha... not the important part though. It is really hard and sad to hear about babies born with complications, and I can only hope they all have such a great outcome like the story I read today. She is not without complications, but is functioning VERY well, with few delays developmentally.

It's scary to think that it happens! I'm lucky enough to have three great children's hospitals very close (within an hour and a half) all of which I transport to at work so I know some of the doctors and nurses plus the service I work for has a neonat truck that is on call 24/7 and I know the people on the truck. So I'm comfortable knowing if heaven forbid something happen to Jacob I know he will get the best care possible!

Thank you Jaidynsmum for the awesome siggy!

This is probably my biggest fear. It's wonderful that the child is doing well though! DH's cousin's children were both preterm, but they weren't 24 weeks! It's really hard to imagine.

I could have just about died of grief when my daughter was born at 29 weeks. I can't imagine the overwhelming feeling of helplessness at having a baby at 24 weeks. Thankfully, I have an amazing NICU in the hospital I deliver at in my area. Those babies and mamas are SOO strong. Loads of love and prayers to them!

my exhusband's youngest brother was born very early like that, i can't remember exactly how many weeks. but he ended up completely okay, regular, normal guy. he's gotta be about 25 now and has a son of his own.

It is amazing. One of the youngest premature babies ever was born at 21 weeks, and she is now a healthy, functional and active child. I read her story a few weeks ago, her parents fought so hard for her!

I had a friend who had her baby at 25 weeks. She was 13oz at birth so so so tiny! Sadly she only lived for 10 days.

Another friend of mine had her baby at 28 weeks I think it was... she was on bedrest several weeks before that and admitted to the hospital. he was a tiny thing at birth but is doing GREAT now! just had his first bday.
