I've been scouting out fabrics sales and doing a lot of crazy sewing to make a few ring slings for myself and a couple friends. It's a total sickness. Anyway, lately I've been looking at what all it would take to make a mei tai. It seems like a lot of work but you can make some beautiful carriers.

Anyway, I happened to be out looking at baby bouncers at Baby Depot when I saw WAAAAAAY in the back of different baby carriers an Infantino Sash Mei Tai for $20! I don't think I could make it myself for any cheaper!

And if anyone was thinking of buying fabric to make a ring sling, Hancock Fabrics has more linen color/blend choices but Joann's has a better sale. I'd probably go to Hancock if I wanted ring sling fabric tonight.

I wish I had a sewing machine because I really need to find a ring sling and I keep searching and searching and I cannot find anything below 50-60 bucks. Sigh.

I bought 6 yards of cotton interlock (a little stretchy) at Hancock to make into a Moby style wrap. You don't have to sew it. I plan on adding a little pocket to the front for keys and phone though.

Me too, Karry! Except, I DO have a sewing machine I got for Christmas (it's currently in storage) and I have no idea how to use it! lol I really want a ring sling, I may end up buying one from consignment at our local baby boutique after baby gets here.

Ring slings are ridiculously easy to make, especially if you've been out of sewing for a long time. I recommend starting with a single layer (bottom weight linen or linen/cotton blend) so you only have to hem the top and bottom edges and along one side (after cutting to about 30 inches). Straight seams at all hems. Then take your rings and follow directions on how to thread the material through the rings without any additional sewing

I debated trying to sew a carrier. I've made mei teis and ring slings but decided I wanted a moby wrap. After figuring what fabric and how much I'd need, I ended up buying one from ebay for the same price. I can't wait to try it out.
